Here's the article that started all the Glock myths.  I always wanted to read this but I couldn't find it anywhere online.  I guess reporters do a good job of hiding their mistakes.  When I was at the library the other day I looked it up.  It's the January 15, 1986 edition of the Washington Post.

If you are wondering why Garfield and Charlie Brown are off to the side it's because this article originally appeared in the comics section of the paper.  I shit you not.

Apparantly this guy Jack Anderson who's supposed to be one of the fathers of modern invetigative jounalism and a Pulitzer Prize winner forgot to check his sources and the AP picked up the story.

Just thought everyone would enjoy this little peice of Glock history.

Well...

If they didn't know what to look for (because back then, few in airport security had seen polymer handguns), it would indeed be difficult to spot just the barrel and the slide.

And, in fact, the demonstration proves it.

1985

When the antis were in full furor over the plastic pistol invisible to X-rays.

Yeah, I saw that.  I first posted 1986 and then changed it to 1985 due to what the OP said.  I trust him more than I do newspapers.

I went to Europe in 1985.  The Berlin wall was still up, heightened security in the airports (submachine guns all over the place).  Check Points at all borders, etc.  I wonder if I'd even recognize it if I went back now.

If he made it through twice, he must have done something right.

Simply putting the frame upright and placing the suitcase so that the frame would be viewed from the top instead of the side would be a good start.

Sorry, I think it was 1986.  A lot of web pages say 1985.  I'm at work and I left my note at home.    Fixed.  Hey I'm qualified to work at the Post I guess.
