What's the most popular music our members listen too? If the catagory ain't listed in the poll, feel free to submit a write in. How about listing your top 3 musicians/bands in the catagory you choose. I'd be interested in looking in to some stuff I normally wouldn't know about. Rock on!!![flag]

Guess I'll go first..... Been listening to a lot of these 3 lately: 1) Ministry(Psalm69, The Live Album...) 2) The Cro Mags (Age Of Quarrel) 3) Smashing Pumpkins (Gish & Siamese Dream only)

Nothings wrong with it. I only had 5 slots for the poll. If there was a 6th, that would have been it. Ever see the Biography Channel show on Beethoven? Probably the single most passionate/genius musician I've ever heard about. Unbelievable guy. I've also been to Mozart's childhood home in Salsburg Austria. Pretty cool. I just don't know much about classical music. Vivaldi's 4 Seasons, Beethovens 5th....that's about it. Classical does have it's moments. P.S.- Wagner from Apoc. Now in the Air Cav. scene was probably the best movie application of classical music ever!

No particular order: Pink Floyd Van Halen (pre-Sammy Hagar) Eagles P.S. I don't like all that garbage-can-banging, gutteral-wretch-sounding, mosh-pit-thrashing, nails-in-the-face-wearing, soundtrack-for-anarchy "music". Nor do I like all that pretentious, pseudo-intellectual, oh-so-clever, got-no-voice-so-I'll-just-growl, self-absorbed, my-worldview's-better-than-yours, alternative-to-who-knows-what, "progressive" music either. Nor do I like all that obscene, f*ck-me-now, stick-me-good, do-me-hard, I'm-yo-ho-don't-U-know, oo-oo-baby, split-me-open porno music. Nor do I like all that hip-hop, rap-crap, n!gga-dis-N-n!gga-dat, in-yo-face, gangsta-ice-T, cap-yo-ass, mutha-f*kkin jungle-monkey-sh!t music. Nor do I like all that teeny-bopper, gay-boy-band, pimple-poppin, bad-boy-wanna-be, cutsie-white-boy-actin'-black, prepubescent, pre-fab music. Country's okay.

Rap/Hip Hop didn't make the list for a reason, neither did Top 40. Both because I personally think they suck, and if there are people who like that, they can write it in. There's only 5 slots for a poll....I did what I could. Oh yeah, I LOVE Pink Floyd. Easily in the top one or two greatest bands of all time. I also listen to reggae (Marley, Tosh, Burning Spear, Big Youth), but, again, only 5 slots and figured that reggae wouldn't be a real popular choice around here....don't know why.

I listen to practically everything - from Bluegrass to Industrial. Anyone a Ministry fan? - Land of Rape and Honey, Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste (gotta love the samples from Full Metal Jacket) Right now in the truck is the soundtrack to O'Brother Where Art Though right between Kid Rock and Ministry's Filth Pig. I'm diverse!!! [%|]

IM a hardcore republican...23 and voted for McCain in primaries...BOOOSH in presedential. The main groups I listen to right now are System of a Down, Rage against the Machine, and Tool. I grew up on rap and its something alot of you "older" folks couldnt understand. ITs not as good as it used to be though. Today the main theme is getting bitches, money, and cars. Back in the 6th grade it was "f the Pollice". I absolutely HATE country. Ive only met one person that has a good common sense and listens to country regularly. I like music from the heart and not music "bought" from some flea market like pop country!
Link Posted: 1/10/2002 9:31:41 PM EDT
I used to have a lot of posts here...before Ed went and changed everything! Grrrrrr! Just kidding Ed. Now, for everyone who thinks they HATE jazz---jazz is NOT always a bunch of guys playing a lot of weird crap on saxophones in smoke-filled rooms full of people on LSD. A good part of the music you hear in movies and television programming is jazz, and whether you can admit it or not, you LIKE at least SOME of it. Actually, jazz has had a lot of influence on rock since the 70s, and rock has had tremendous influence on so-called country-western since the eighties. If anyone out there has found his or herself in a musical rut since the rock of the 70s, give a listen to the likes of Eric Johnson, Steve Morse, and Jeff Beck (Beck has been around the longest and has pretty much covered the spectrum...I would recommend "Wired" and "Who Else"). There is plenty of "jazz" out there that I don't care for myself, but there's a lot of great music out there to be heard, and to skip over it because you're sure you won't like it because of its genre is just plain silly. Anyone who wants to brave the uncharted waters of jazz should seek out "Heavy Weather" by Weather Report, "Romantic Warrior" by Return to Forever, or some of the work of the musicians I mentioned above. I think you'll be glad you did.

I can't limit myself. Just getting into my dad's Classic Rock. I like Heavy Metal, Alternative, Progressive, Grunge, some Folk, Pop, no Rap Tool, Metallica, KoRn, Limp Bizkit (when they rocked), Linkin Park, Led Zepelin, Pink Floyd, The Eagles I HATE MUDVAYNE, SLIPKNOT, MANSON, KITTIE AND MORE That said, I refuse to limit myself to genres. Edited because I forgot Staind, and that just wont do.

Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, old Madonna, Duran Duran, Go-Gos, AC-DC, Rob Zombie, Fiona Apple, Limp Bizkit, Godsmack's 2nd album (first one sucks), some Tori Amos, Ministry, Filter's first album (second one sucks), old Megadeth, some Hole, Korn, Metallica. And that's just in the CD case I carry around with me. My other CD case has Judas Priest, Billy Idol, ZZ Top, Coal Chamber, Purple Rain, The Cure, Blondie's Greatest Hits, The Police, Misfits, Samhain, Iron Maiden... you get the idea.

No WOLFPACK I did vote for McCain in the primaries. I thought he was a more straight up guy than BOOSH. He had always had a problem with "authority figures" and following "the code" when he was younger and so I figured he would be the better republican candidate! He did ok despite the religious nazi's Fallwell and Robertson dragging his name through the mud to voters. Im proud of BOOSH nevertheless. Im sick and tired of republican being portrayed as racist, rich, radical right people...its just not so. republican to me is working hard, supporting your family, love of God and country.....nuff said!

Sinnfein... I totally agree with you about pop-country. It's as crappy as pop-boyband, or any kind of manufactured crappy music. But don't discount the entire genre. There are lot's of great 'country' artists who aren't total musical prostitutes and put out great music. Examples? Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, the late Graham Parsons, John Hiatt (to a certain extent... not really totally country) to name a few. How about the Americana bands like Uncle Tupelo, the Jayhawks, ect. Don't forget the Real Neil Young... He got pretty country, but no music fan I have ever met would say he sucked. Oh yeah... Classics like Hank Williams Sr. (not Bocephus), Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, etc. Cheers, Chris P.S. My favorite bands are Elvis Costello and the Attractions, and The Clash.

dogsdad, American music is all based on the "The Blues" of the late 1800's / early 1900's. All of the Rap Crap / techno shit / disco/ non-taleted sampler asswipes all program their bass and drum sounds from John Paul Jones and John Bonham of Led Zepplin. Yes, Arock, Cream, and Blind Faith (sort of leftover Cream) were excellent! And I'll always listen to whatever Pink Floyd album is playing, or Jethro Tull, or Led Zepplin. But why was 'Classical' left out of the mix? That's the music that's playing in the background in my office now, or in my home-office later. It cannot offend anyone, has no vulgar, obscene lyrics, and is emblematic of Western Civilization's primacy in the history of music. Eric The(Now,Mozart-Bach-Beethoven,That'sCream)Hun[>]:)]

I guess I'd fit into the metal/thrash/punk categorie, though I'm not that big on metal or thrash. I mostly listen to punk/Oi! (Wretched Ones, Templars, The Bodies) and even some hardcore (mostly 80's stuff like Youth Of Today, Bold, CroMags). Not big on much of the new hardcore, except for Blood For Blood who fucking rock. Besides that I also like alot of Bluegrass, Country (pre Garth Brooks) and RockaBilly.

Too bad Al turned into a Herion Junkie and is living in the slums of the west side of Chicago. Ministry rocks!! That has to be the best concert I have ever been too. Saw them at the RIV,(1500 people tops), with 3 other bands,(DID REVCO, and Jello showed up for a lard set). They setup a cage for same stage diving. First time I ever did a stage dive. Was 17 at the time, and they were selling liquor to anyone!! Spent all my cash on Beer, got wasted!! Was wearing a white T-shirt, and by the end of it, it was covered in Blood, sweat, and black shit! The blood wasnt even mine! Ears rang for three days after that show. Ah, to be young and foolish like that again. c-rock

The diversity (although I frickin' hate that word) of my CD tower would drive some to madness or simply cause bleeding of the eyes and gums in others. It includes, in no particular order: The complete Social Distortion discography Professor Longhair (housrockin' New Orleans jump-jive piano) RIP Ludwig van Beethoven Suicidal Tendencies (all I wanted was a Pepsi...) Danzig Ministry Billy Bragg English Beat The Pogues Pantera Van Halen Enya Johnny Cash Fugazi So obviously, there is no way I can just check one of the selections in the poll.

Looking at the pile of CDs I play most often: 1) Frank Zappa 2) Leon Redbone 3) Simon & Garfunkel 4) Bagpipes, tradional Scottish music, Pipe & Drum corps, etc. 5) Kinky Friedman 6) Willie Nelson If I had to name a category, it would be Folk/Traditional. Kinky Friedman and Willie are local boys, and I love a well written song...No, I don't know how Zappa fits in there, I just like his "think for yourself" attitude.

Wow, more Ministry fans than I thought! Al stated (paraphrasing here) in an interview once that he wrote all his music while tripping on acid - it didn't sound right if he wasnt. [%|] Although I dont actually approve, he was telling Tipper Gore to F off long before we saw her get tongue wrestled by Al. And Tool, can't believe I didnt think about them. For you Ministry and Tool fans, check out Skinny Puppy - Al worked on their first couple albums with them.

Anyone ever listen to Funk? There's an incredible band out of New Orleans that's been around for years called "The Meters". They are with out question one of the best bands ever. I'm not talkin' about P-Funk style funk music, or Parlament, it's more classic, rootsy funk, sort of like James Browns funkiest stuff. If that's your mood, then The Meters are THE band.
