Cops Arrested for Firing Guns Over Christmas
MANILA (Reuters) - Two Filipino policemen and a security guard were arrested this week after firing their guns into the air to celebrate Christmas, local newspapers reported Friday.
Today newspaper quoted the Philippines' national police chief Leandro Mendoza as saying one Manila traffic cop, drunk and in full uniform, fired two shots in the air while standing in the middle of the city's main shopping district on December 24.
The officer will lose his job and faces criminal charges, Mendoza said.
Another officer on the central Philippine island of Cebu was held for questioning after his neighbors complained he was shooting his gun indiscriminately on Christmas Eve.
A security guard in the north of Metropolitan Manila set off his .38-caliber handgun several times that same evening and was also arrested, the newspaper said.
