I've been diving since I was fifteen, about 10 years.  Open Water is my only certification but stopped counting after 100+ dives. Most of it has been local and state side.  I'm flying out to the Virgin Islands in January. I'm pumped!![0j]

Sold my Aqua Lung back in 1972.  72 cu ft US Divers.

When I got out of the service and then college the price of gear had sky rocketed.

Still keep my eye out for that used tank and regulator.  If i ever run accross a set for under $300 I'm jumping.  Still snorkel alot.

I have been dying to learn for about ten years. Can't find anyone around here that's interested in learning with me. Maybe that will all change if I can talk my bride into it. Hmmmmmmmm.

Bump...

PADI basic open water, then Advanced, then Rescue Diver+ Nitrox.... Doing mixed gas next week.
You haven't been truly scared until you have done a 110' dive, at night, on a wreck... With Dolphins swiming around.

323dives in my log... Grand Cayman is the best.
Mexico, Florida, Cayman Isl, Belieze, and Greece.

I am told that diving causes brain damage.

Scuba diving is still on my long list of "wanna-do" sports/recreation.  Gotta find the time to learn, though.  Looks really fun.

NAUI since 1983.  Done the Carib over and over.  Like to get old and move to Saba.  Done some smooth livin' there.

Hugo in '89 just about got me.  We'd been on Guadeloupe and went over to Dominica for a few days.  D@mn storm was coming but we figured it was going north.  By Friday we were up the creek.  Hitched a ride on the very last plane out of Canefields in Rosseau on Saturday morning.  Hugo hit two hours later.  We got pushed out of the sky over Martinique.  Our Twin Otter went into the runway sideways but the Concorde runway was wide enough to get it stopped.  Gendarmes said we were on our own.  I hot-wired a car and we got to Trois Reviers.  Took five days to get back to the mainland.  Caught a hop on a LIAT Caravelle up to Antigua and then stole a couple seats on a BWIA to Miami.  Was d@mn happy to get back to the USA alive.

Would'a rather been underwater.

Deerfield Beach... Wherever the hell that is.

Ms. havoc and I will be in southern FL for the holidays to visit her folks, and she has an interview scheduled while we're there. Her company is in need of her abilities there, and may transfer us.

I had come close to getting a job in Vero Beach a few months ago, but never heard anything after I was promised an offer by the company in question... Which I view as very unprofessional.

(Rant off)... And now back to SCUBA talk.

Two summers ago spent two weeks diving the Solomon Islands, got caught up in the revolution and nearly was taken hostage at a roadblock...was let go BECAUSE I was an American. Saw lots of unexploded ordinance up close and personal. Planes/ships etc.

The year before Fiji (another revolution, but avoided the area of conflict).

This past summer was in Mexico when the hurricane came through Baja and sunk a 125' dive boat. Our boat rescued some of the survivors. Vis was about 10' after the storm.

Three years ago did Honduras (Bay Islands). Dove on some wrecks.

Four years ago got bent in Dutch West Indies and did a little time in a chamber.

Try to make a couple trips a year. Next trip is to Palau and to La Paz (in search of a whale shark).

Man! SCUBA and Sky Diving are on my list of things I HAVE to do!

Skydiving won't be hard for me to do. There are quite a few places locally. But SCUBA is another thing! It's kinda hard to do much SCUBA when your a land-locked Hillbilly in MO! Unless, you wanna go do it in some Muddy ass lake, or some crapped out strip pit!

Been an active diver since 1972...mostly dive wrecks off NC coast but have done diving in CA, the Keys, Jamaica and St. Johns.  Will be leaving on 12/26 for a week of diving in Hawaii. My oldest son is now a PADI Divemaster, working on Instructor certification.  My youngest will get certified this year.

After Hawaii, my oldest is leaving for 4 months in Australia...will be doing a lot of diving.  Hopefully I can get over there and do some diving with him.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

PADI Open Water cerfified while stationed at MCAS Kaneohe Bay, HI in 1986.  My instructor was Diane Cade.  I stopped logging dives after 200 or so.  There were only so many times I could write about the conditions at Sharks Cove, Three Tables, Pyramid Rock, Haleiwa Trench,...  I swear we made at least 4 dives a week and ate like Kings on spiney and slipper lobster, Parrot fish, Squirrel fish, Taco,...

We did more night dives than anything else and I will never forget the sunrises at 60 feet.  I sold my gear as I was leaving K-Bay in '88, and I have not been "wet" since.[>(]

PADI certified since 1993. Unfortunately,a slight sinus problem I have makes it hard to equalize the water pressure. Sometimes, I'm able to dive, sometimes I can't. I never actually know until I get into the water.
My last attempt was about 3 years ago at Grand Cayman. I couldn't even get to a depth of 40ft before my ears were killing me. The trip before that was in the Florida Keys. I was diving up to 70 ft with little problems.
It's hard for me to get motivated to go diving anymore when I spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars for a dive trip when I'm not sure if I'll be even able to dive.
I suppose I'll try again sometime, but not anytime soon.
