I need to figure out at a given salary how much total the feds and my state are going to take from me, social security medicare,..all that crap.
If anybody can point me to a website with some kind of calculator or plain-english-type explanations of percentages taken for given "brackets" for ss, medicare and fed tax, or has any helpful formulas it'd be greatly appreciated.
I found something on the irs.gov site but it didnt make sense to me, since it said they would withhold a number about a thousand less than what they did for 2000 and my new salary that I put in their calc. is about 25% higher gross than 2000 (25% not a typo I'm getting laid off and taking my same job back as a contractor, weird huh? but that's IT) I figured at my current salary I get to take home 73%, if I understand right socialist systems punish you for having more money than single childless dudes are supposed to have so I will be actually taking a smaller percentage of my new salary home.
but it's worth it knowing I'm funding good things like faith-based initiatives, welfare and foreign aid. Hell I should volunteer to pay more! And BTW, I wouldn't recommend talking like this about the federal government to anyone else around here since lately anti-government speech is equivalent to "terrorist loving"
