Do the USA steel mags really suck that bad?  I just got first AR have not even shot it yet but have about 20 USGI mags.  14 of which a NIW.  But I was going to buy a USA just to see what all the fuss is about.  I have used them in other firearms and they worked fine.  Is the AR that picky?

Also is $20. about right for new thermolds?  I think the ones I'm looking at are Canadian but I'm not sure how to tell.

You guys are getting me wet . . . [:D]

Here I am with my 4 pitiful Thermolds . . . of course, I've got about a gazillion AK mags.  They are CHEAP and plentiful - and tough enought to drive nails with.  How come AR mags can't be as tough?

Ballsy

The reason I think AR mags aren't as tough is the fact that the US can always resupply its soldiers. Russia on the other hand can't even feed theirs much less replace broken mags.  Another reason being mags sold to 3rd world nations with the truckloads of AK's needed to be sturdy so it would be a one time business transaction.  Just my $.02.

AKRAZY: usa brand is that bad (as is garbage) mine are aluminum not steel, to get them to hold more than 20 rounds had to bend down the feed lips to hold rounds in mag. shop around on those thermolds. the ones i have cost $15 each, check the mag section brought mine from ronin45 there.
BALLS: remember usgi mags were made to be thrown away, so they were made light weight for cost & carrying weight.  a believe cheap asian & soviet steel is behide the reasoning for using it in ak mags ( plus look at the abuse those firearms & mags can take)

Just wondering....

Does it take longer to load them all or to empty them all at the range?

AK,

I'll trade you some USA for your USGI NIW. I'll go 2 for 1. [}:D]

My personal opinion of USA mags is that the mags are not that good...Others have expressed the lack of quality better than I can, or will.

Allot of their (USA) mags were put together at the last minute with no regard to quality what-so-ever...just so they could have something to sell after the ban went into effect, and it shows.

Just my .02...

I just recently purchased my first ar15, which mags should i be looking for and what is a decent price.  I know usgi are good but there are lots of differnt ones and do thermolds last or do the break real easly.
