Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Old 1911 info links?

Any one know of a link to info on very old 1911's?
I was looking at an old one at a flea market sn 2033. marked as gov property. bluing worn mostly off but good metal. seller wanted 600 for it.
The thing about it that strikes me is that it seams lighter and thinner than current gov model, I didnt have one with me to do a direct comparison, it just felt that way.
