Read something a couple years ago that said statistically MEN are twice as likely to be raped as women if you count the prison system.

Hell yeah. The county I used to prosecute in is home to a prison or two, so we would get to prosecute the murders and whatnot that went on behind bars. I recall a prosecution or two for male-on-male rape. The prosecutions were very rare, but based on what the Department of Corrections investigators told me, the occurence of rape wasn't.

Sounds like you got Prison rape fantasies to deal with  2 guys at work used to be prison guards for about 6 yrs. a piece. I hear the stories all the time. Its about 90% black on white attacks also. |

I've heard that it happens less in federal prisons.
Have also heard that this was an American thing and that rape and hard time was rare in European countries and also Canada. |

It not that common. I think the last stats I saw was something like 5%. Most guys getting bungholed do it for favors.
I did have one guy I sent to prison tell me he was raped 13 times his first night in prison. Said he got AIDS from it, but I think it was probably consentual. |

I worked as a corrections officer for 4 1/2 years in a minimum and a maximum security prison. I can only remember maybe two instances of it.

It absolutely does happen, and quite a lot of the time, the guards can't (or won't, but I tend to give the benefit of the doubt) prevent it. At least in civilian prisons. In military prisons, from what I hear, it generally doesn't happen, but in civilian prisons it's epidemic.
What I hear is, these days, getting into prison for any length of time can pretty much mean you're fucked for life. You're either going to be beholden to a gang, on the outside too, or will have been used as bubba's sex toy, or killed or seriously injured (say, if a gang doesn't trust you), or such... |

It happens. The frequency probably depends on a number of factors.
Like others have noted, there are plenty of guys who go into prisons and are so scared that they will consent to sex for protection or simply to avoid fighting. This often eliminates the need for rape, though it doesn't rule it out entirely. |
