Where does a resident of Texas go deer hunting if (s)he doesn't own any land or have friends or family with ranches?  Do they end up paying to hunt someplace?  Or do landowners permit strangers to hunt on their property?

I am so used to living around large areas of state and federal land in Michigan and Indiana that I can't imagine living in a state where I might have to pay to hunt.

Last week I was from Wylie, just east of Jarhead_22 and LordTrader.  Spent 14 years in Texas with my only complaint being that you have to PAY to hunt.  Not in Washington.  Now I'm from Lacey. (No jokes either unless you wanna get smacked around a little!)

I've found it's cheaper to fly up to MI to hunt than to pay to hunt on Texas land.  My ucnle has a beautiful place in Kalkaska county.

MI, where the deer's rack weigh more than the entire TX deer.

Still love my state though.  I'd rather be free than hunt for free.

Most people who were born and raised in Texas, excepting maybe Dallas and Houston, don't pay to hunt. We just don't tell you non-Texans where to go.

I have a few friends that have cheap deer leases in other parts of the state, away from home. There are two reasons for this.

1. They want to kill more deer than they can legally do locally.

2. They want to be able to set up their stands/feeders and leave them without people messing with them out on public land that they can't go check on regularly.

Those are the only two reasons I can think of to ever pay to go hunting. I'm still wondering where all of these people paying for hog hunts down here are comming from. Most farmers will gladly pay you to get a few of the things off of thier land.

The HGCA Show DOES NOT sell ammo.  It is held four times a year at the Reliant Astro Hall, usually inconjunction with the Military historical society or a antique group.

They have never sold ammo.  Ammo components yes, loaded no.

Friendswood, TX here.  I'll probably be at the show this weekend.  If you see a guy with a goatee lugging around a bushmaster bullpup with extra cooling holes cut in it, that's me :)

About 90% sure I'll be carrying an
Armalite AR10A2 rifle for sale.
