And it was, and is, an urban legend. I've seen the story done up as taking place under the auspices of an ex-brigadier in Wales, with a BBC interviewer freaking out at the mention of the "G-word".

Funny enough, a college professor used this same tack to one of his students (somewhere in the US) and he got hauled in court on sexual harassment charges about a year or two ago. Don't have a cite for it- somewhere around Denver, maybe?
