No joke, about 1/2 of my left thumb is gone ... what's left is a friggin mess.
It's pretty hard to type, and I'm only posting because you never know, it might save somebody else a thumb. I was using a normal 2-handed grip, fired off a Cor-Bon DPX .460 and somehow the blast came violently out the side of the gun. I haven't even had a chance to look at the gun, I was taken to the hospital in an ambulance .. and the gun is stil at my Uncle's house where we were shooting. But I can't imagine anything other than a gun or ammo failure. Just be careful with those 460's. That case operates at such high pressure, it's just asking for trouble. BTW, I bought my 460 new and had exactly 12 rounds through it. <Title edit, added warning- NorCal> Update page 35, post 166 |

Got a lawsuit aimed at S&W or Cor-bon yet?
I frown upon lawsuits against the gun companies, but in this case it looks like you were sold a defective/dangerous product. |
Were you using that stupid pointing thumb at target grip, as used on autos?
If you don't mind, pictures would be quite interesting
ETA: 23 seconds to late |

No chance that your thumb was near the front of the cylinder was it?
I agree 100% |

Was your thumb close to where the front of the cylinder meets the barrel?
Pics, or it didn't happen. |
tag for pics...sorry about the thumb dude, but you might have saved my thumb because I was thinking of getting one of those beasts.

Too early to speculate but it was a violent failure like this on a brand-new gun. Whatever was at fault, I'd hope they settle without a lawsuit. I wouldn't enjoy bringing a gun or ammo manufacturer any bad press. I'll post some gruesome pics tomorrow, when I take off the wrapping and clean this mess. |

I hope you get healed up soon.
Where did you place your thumb when you fired the shot? |
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.
I'm goanna need pics... |
Clearly, it was. Keep your thumbs away from the cylinder gap, buddy. |

I'm holding my .500 as we speak. How the fuck did it blow your thumb off? I have very large hands too.
Wow. Sorry to hear that. I was just admiring a .460 the other day; it's one badass looking machine.
Pics? |
If the gun didn't blow up it sounds like somebody's gonna get a great deal on a slightly used 460.

Jesus Christ guys.
If it isn't true we will find out soon enough. I think it is true and I have some compassion for a guy who lost a digit. Y'all should too. |
Saw a marine do the same thing with a S&W500. Got his off hand thumb too close to the brl and cylender gap. hot high pressure gasses can play hell with flesh.

I got bit pretty hard by a Taurus Raging Bull in .454. Luckily I was wearing gloves. My thumb rode up near the cylinder gap. Totally my fault. you don't make that mistake twice.
sorry about your thumb dude. |

Actually, I was. But anybody familiar with the sheer size of the X-Frame knows that wouldn't put a thumb anywhere near the front of the cylinder. 3 morphine drips today, about 20 local anasthetics, and now a percocet prescription :) I tried to be tough in the ambulance today, but once the adrenaline wore off I said give me that morphine right friggin' now! Pics tomorrow, I wish it didn't happen. |

Damn dude, sorry to hear about that.
Give ya some goodies to kill the pain? I think that may be the gun I got to shoot today at the range. 5 shot revolver? I shot 454 Cassul's. I was like. |
sorry about your opposable thumb situation. almost sounds like the cylinder wasn't shut all the way or the timing is off on the thing

Ouch hope that heals soon. Would like to see pics of the Gun. Keep the pics of the stump not interested.

You did it wrong, your supposed to blow your thumb off then post about it and see if the hive mind suggests if you go to the doc or not.
Keep coming back, it will get better. |
dont 460 me bro. j/k hope you get better, I would like to see pics. |
Fixed. All kidding aside. Did the cylinder come uncunted? Hope you feel better. |
Sorry to hear about that dude. That really sucks (and hurts). In shooting revolver, it's best to have the thumbs crossed over each other. Keeps them out of the way of the barrel-cylinder gap.
