Go with the vest, its alot more comfortable and you can carry 12 mags.6 in the vest and 2 ammo pouches on the belt. The weight is distributed over a bigger area, and it does'nt seem to bounce as much while running or going prone. Its also easier to use a camelback with a vest.

After 10+ years in the infantry I have used both the LBV and the LBE. I found the LBV(vest) to be too hot. In the field I will wear a LBE and say screw uniformity. If you are in Texas you might want to take that in consideration. The LBE being properly adjusted is better in my opinion. However I do not like the "Y" suspenders with it. If you go the LBE route try and find the "H" suspenders. I think I bought mine at US Cav but I'm not sure I have had it for years now.

I also had a bad experience with the vest (my fault). We had completed a mission and were ditching our rucks at the Company to clean up and turn in equipment. I disconnected the top buckle on the vest thinking it was my sternum strap on the ruck, and pulled the quick releases on the ruck straps. Well the sturnum strap was still connected and it cought me in the neck as the 130lbs ruck fell to the ground. It knocked me off my feet real fast. I never wore the vest from that day on in the field because of that and the heat factor when road marching. I cought hell for that one for a while.

Go pack your vest full of mags and stuff, run about 30 yds., and dive forward, face-down and see how you and your stuff holds up.

I prefer a LBE setup with the 30 rd. mag pouches, canteens, and buttpack.  I don't want anything mounted forward of the side-seam of my pants except pistol mag pouches and other similar small items.  All the 30 rd. mag pouches, canteens, etc. go behind the pants seam for me.  I can run with it, take a flying leap forward, and land on my belly and not "knock my breath away" and hurt my equipment.

Exactly.  Anyone who's tried to wear both and actually do something all day with them on will tell you that the LBV is just too damn hot unless it's winter time.  If you're assaulting a structure and only plan on fighting for a short period of time (like SWAT or other police action) the LBV makes sense.  But for military operations the LBE is more comfortable.  You can use Camelback products with most modern gear as well.

I use an Israeli LBE set-up which carries 14 magazines for my M16 plus two canteens and an assortment of other necessary gear.  It carries the load perfectly and I can dump the gear in seconds with a pull of one cord.

My vote obviously is for the LBE.

Matt,

That's the best gear I've found and it's what I use too.

Why are you selling this set-up?

raising money for another AR, of course. My barrel and upper came in on a first attempt from UPS, more coming from Fulton Armory later. It will be a post ban m16-A1 look-alike, as close to the one I carried in the Gulf War as possible! I am really looking forward to finishing it and I am selling a lot of stuff...

What did you do in the Gulf?  I ask because I know all Marines were armed with A2's and I thought all Army soldiers were armed with A2's as well.  We're you an Airman?  Just curious... [:)]

Where did you pick your IDF LBE up from?

I worked in the supply section of 5/6 CAV, 12th Aviation Bde., and we had A1's instead of A2's, .38 revolvers instead of 9mm, CUCV pickups and blazers instead of Hummers, but our Apaches were top of the line! Got the gear in 1988 or so, before in the Army, ad in SOF.

LBE.  It is not as hot, more easily customized, and flexes more than a vest.  It is also easier to get on over a field jacket.  Blackhawk's 'enhanced' LBE has wide, padded straps to better spred the load.  If Blackhawk is out of your range, the M1956 'H' straps are still in the surplus market.

Thanks Everyone.. LBE it is.. the vest does have cool factor but I was wondering about all that shit raming into my chest if I took a dive. And since this is a SHTF kind of thing cool factor doesnt count to much. Besides if I want to look cool I can always rent a 20 year old to escort me..
