I got the bike for $35. It functions but it could probably use a little help. This is my first bike and I bought it so I could fix it up and thereby learn more about bikes.

What should I do with it first. I'm thinking I'll put about $200 into it for now. It'll be used mainly for "urban off-road" (I guess you'd call it that) in preparation for going to bike patrol school.

make sure the tires are in good shape.

buy a pump & a couple of spare tubes, plus a helmet & a pair of gloves.

lube the chain (prolink gold is awesome stuff) and tune the derailleurs

make sure the wheels are true & spoke tension is high enough.

ride the snot out of it and have a blast!
