Good article on why some in the media are pointing to the supposed Militia groups.

Well he is wrong about one thing, the anthrax wasnt weapons grade- that was the babbling of certain panicked congress critters.

It was impressively concentrated, the material in Daschel's envelope weighed quite a bit, was very fine and almost pure anthrax spores. But it wasnt a weaponized variety. It it was vulnerable to just about any antibiotic you care to name, even good old fashoned penicillin. It is probably a common barnyard strain.

There is only two reasons the militia are having suspicious glances cast at them: Tim McVeigh, and the fact that all those who have recieved packages are publicly supportive of gun control. The foreign media are only repeating what the US media have been speculating. They have no special insight.

If it is a far right group they have hung us all.  We have been winning the battle for gun rights for the last year.  And if turns out to be them, its going to fuck up everything we have accomplished.

I think I heard it was weapons grade before the incident in DC. Like so many other things going on I think we are getting some disinformation.
I am kinda suspicious that it has been classified other than weapons grade.

Is there officially a such thing as "weapons grade" anthrax?

Yes.

They are strains that produce very small spores and are resistant to antibiotics.

Hence all the talk about Cypro, which is the only antibiotic known to work on all known strains of anthrax including those cooked up by the US Army, some 1400 in all. This doesnt mean someone in Russia or Iraq haven't cooked up something that is Cyprofloxin resistant.

But the "barnyard" varieties, which comprise something like 90% of the known strains are vulnerable to most generic antibiotics, including original penecillin.
