well?
looking at kahrs, they're a bit pricey compared to a snubby 38 and pretty much the same size/weight (a little thinner given)

which to get?  if i do decide on a snubby which one to get?  what's a good caliber for something with such a small barrel?

I own Glocks, Sigs, HS2000, an HK, 1911's...

I carry a .357 Snub as my daily carry if that gives you any idea.

As far as wht to buy- always buy the best one you can afford.
Taurus makes a helluva nice economy compact wheelgun

If it really is going to be a backup gun, what is it backing up? Your primary weapon should help guide your choice for a secondary weapon.

well. normally itll be backin up a HK USP C 45.  (just replaced my beretta 92)

ive looked at taurus they seem good for the money.  what i was asking about caliber was since you loose so much velocity from such a short barrel etc...

I bought a Taurus PT22 as a backup to whatever I am carrying, 9mm, 45ACP, or .40.  It is loaded with hyper velocity Federal .22LR hollowpoints.  I think that will do the job and it was not very expensive.

Assuming money is an issue, my first choice would be an aluminum frame S&W five shot revolver in .38 Special (or maybe a similar Taurus).

I don’t know much about it, but the Kel-Tec .32 ACP also looks pretty attractive as a back-up if weight and/or bulk are concerns.

I own the Kahr Mk9 . I love it . In summer it is my primary gun . Nice and small but still a 9mm . They are kinda pricey but you get what you pay for . Look for a deal , I got mine as a police trade in . It was used but I held it up to a brand new one and couldn't tell the difference except for the price . Came with the box and everything . I think 9mm has slightly more energy than a 38 spl .

                  Good luck

I've got both.
Two things to remember about revolvers.
1. They always work
2. No empties

Ditto. No lack of power with the .357! I prefer 158gr Hydra-Shoks.

in revolvers with hot loads the primers can get pushed out and this will cause the revolver to not let the cylinder rotate a "JAM" if you will.

My daily carry weapon is a S&W 642 (2" .38 Spl +P).  For comfort and controllability in shooting, the aftermarket Hogue grips are best, but for best concealability, the factory standard Uncle Mike's boot grips are best.  Federal Nyclad 125 grain rounds, either standard or +P are my recommendation for a defensive load in this weapon.

The smallest autoloader I have ever carried is a Colt Officer's Model .45.  Not exactly a micro auto.

If I was to look for a small auto for daily carry, it would probably be a Kahr P9

As far as a true back-up gun is concerned, I don't think you can beat that little KEL_TEC.  It weighs almost nothing; in an Uncle Mikes pocket holster you won't even know it's there.  The gun has usable sights, and the ones I've had experience with are very accurate for there size.

S&W 640 .357 mag but loaded with 158 gr Corbon lead hollowpoints in .38 special.

All steel frame handles the recoil just fine and carries well in my front pocket.
