A 40mm grenade huh?
Yea, it does bring back memories.  I don't remember where we got the ammo...but it was a good thing the stuff was so old the main charge failed to explode.  I got a whippin' over that one.
A blue paint job on ordnance usually means inert.  All the training shapes I ever saw, whether 5" shells, ASROC, or surface to air missiles, were all painted blue...so that everybody would know that they contained no explosive materials at all.
Now, if the thing was green, or gray maybe, then we have a serious problem...and we would be asking, "Where's Waldo?"
