Well, we need more votes.
I'll keep a running tally of all the votes and post it periodically. |

for the last year ive lived in the peoples republic of madison but have lived in green bay most of my life. i do most of my shooting near my cabin outside of laona. there are areas where you can shoot 1,000 yards if you want to.also if anyone is interested in coyote hunting i have a great area where shots can get out 300-400 yards.

Kato,
I live in Appleton, And have been looking for a place to go an see a coyote! Any ideas? I'd appreciete an Email. Thanks! -Jared |

I vote for Lodi, thats an outstanding range. If we feel ambitious enough we could try out the longer ranges (200-300-600-1000) or the sillouette (sp?) range (200-535) or just stick to the practice range and ring gongs / punch paper / topple pins 50 to 100 yds. Never seen the Stoughton one but I could shoot anywhere and be happy.

Where is Lodi?
How far is it away from Appleton (aprox) You guys plan on shooting this fall yet? -Jared |
I'm in if the weekend works for the family's schedule.
Heck, Muad Dib, for organizing something not only would I let you burn some powder with my toys, I might even give you a ride to the range! [;)] |
My vote goes to the Wausau range, more of a central location for everyone, including us far northerners.

Here is the vote so far.
Lodi - 3 Stoughton - 2 Wausau - 2 Remember that I said you can vote twice so that we can expand our options. If you all want to have a group shoot at one of the private property locations that have been offered we can do that. I personally think it's a better idea to have the first shoot in a more structured environment. JacRyan gave me this idea... What about carpooling? I'd be willing to split gas with just about anyone. I figure it would be pretty safe. Afterall, everyone would probably be armed to the teeth. Keep the votes coming. After we decide where, we can decide when. Whatever range we choose will probably have their own schedule that we'll have to conform to. I'd like to do this before any major snow. So I'll limit the voting to the end of this coming weekend. Last votes must be in by 23:59 October 14, 2001. |

I vote for Lodi. Heard it is a nice range, and not that far from Illinois border.

Heck, it took me 7 years of living in Madison before I found the Deerfield range. I'll let others who have more knowledge of other (and bigger) ranges vote their preference.
Bottom line is that if I can get the day off (again, family schedule will have to allow) then I'm in. I drive 1-2 hours for IDPA shoots, so I could probably make anything inside of 150 miles or so. The bigger question is how am I going to sneak an extra case of ammo into the budget.... Guess I'll have to jump on the next battlepacks I find. |

Hey yous guys!
Milwaukee checking in here. What's your opinion of Mcmillers Range near Delafield. I went there once. I was not impressed |
Its good to see that there are more back woods Wisconsin people on here then just me.[NI]
Checking in from MIlwaukee.
McMiller sucks since they only have a 100 yard range. I can go into more deatil later. Anyhow, I'm game for going anywhere in the state, but so far Lodi sounds good. |
portage here any range works for me but would perfer it be in the spring to much going on this time of year
I agree with tatoo,
With Bow hunting, and gun hunting coming up, time is getting short. Soon after that there will be snow flying. I think the spring might be a better choice, or both? -Jared |

I would like to go to a place where I could bring my AR 50. It is a good crowd pleaser. the bigger the bag the more fun it is..

Lodi - 4
Wausau - 3 Stoughton 2 And two votes for having it after the thaw. Which I'm not against. With over 730 viewings and 70 posts I think there is obviously a silent majority here. Please post where you want to have a meeting, not just where you live. And for those who haven't said so, please let me know when you'd like to see this happen. |
I'll chime in again,
I vote for Wasau, What kind of range do they have? Nice? Most likely, I'll only be bringing a few guns. After the thaw is sounding better and better. -Jared |

Well, if Lodi is really the kick butt range that everyone says it is, well, then that's my vote. Of course, it also helps that it's under an hour from my doorstep....
As to when, I think that considering we're already mid-October, it will be tough to get a bunch of people together for a group shoot. I know I'll probably need at least a few weeks notice, and our October is pretty full already. I'm not adverse to shooting in cold weather. I shoot all year round (outdoors even). So the timing of it really doesn't matter to me. As for Muad Dib (and any other members of the Deerfield range), I wouldn't necessarily be adverse to an informal noon hour shoot. During the week I adjust my workday so I can shoot over the lunch hour. I try to get out at least every other week and can even pick you up if you're downtown. Hit me up with an email and lemme know. Keep in mind that once the ground freezes I have to come up with new target stand options, so.... |
Hey guys. I live near Madison. I would be willing to go to Stoughton or Lodi in that order. Stoughton is closest but I have never been there. Is it any good?
Sorry I haven't checked on the thread for awhile guys. I would vote for Lodi. It is pretty centrally located, although some of you near-yoopers might disagree!!
Lodi has long range too, I would bring my 110FP to do some long range work.... As far as temps and the time of year goes, as long as it's not during deer hunting, I bet most of us would be able to make a Sunday meet. We are people of the frozen tundra, aren't we? We'll have to make sure to bring enough Johnsonville Brats!!! |
I hear Stoughton isn't black rifle friendly. Lodi would be cool if they'll have us, I understand it's a great range (just a bit pricey for membership, tho). I'd vote for Lodi if that's an option.

Wausau - 4 Stoughton - 3 Posted by TheKill: We'll have to make sure to bring enough Johnsonville Brats!!! View Quote I'm all for that! Gotta be carefull though. It's pretty hard to clean mustard off of a parkerized gun [:o)] |

Is anybody else here a member at Lodi? The guest policy was recently changed to allow as many people as the member(s) present can reasonably supervise. Usually that works out to small groups and I think that makes it easy to show off the place (more than the previous one time non-member visit) and bring in new members.
Crap. Maybe I should call around and see what all the range policies are before we get fixed on one place.
Duh...why didn't I think of that first.[BD] |
Sorry guys, I haven't had any time the last couple of days to call around. I'll make some calls this week and post what I find out.
The kill said he was between Madison and Milwaukee. Where? I'm from Oconomowoc. Oh yeah, McMiller does suck ass!
GreenBay here, so were is this Lodi range ? which one is the best in WI?[0j] [):)]
Sorry guys, I've been swamped with classes and work lately and haven't had a chance to call around yet. I met one of the AR15.com members at the Madison gun show today and it reminded me that I need to get working on this. I'll call around this week and post what I find out.

Dolomite from Milly-wok-ay checking in.
I belong to The Daniel Boone Conservation League in Hubertus (about 30 minutes NW of MKE). While the range facilities are as about as nice as any other place I've seen - the rifle range is only 200 yards, and most of the membership is a bunch of old and grouchy dinosaurs that believe that the term "shooting" only applies to trap and .22 rimfire benchrest. The place is VERY Politically Correct, ie; no human shaped targets. On the upside, we do have an AR-15 league (sorry, members only), and we are starting to have three-gun steel matches (the next one being 12/2) - so, I guess it can sort of be said that we're starting to grudgingly enter the 1970's. Anyway, I'd be more than happy to travel just about anywhere in the state to crank off some rounds with you guys. Lodi, Warsau, Stoughton, whatever. Never been to any of those places so I can't state a preference. I don't care where I go to shoot as long as its roomy and safe. Also, a warm AR-15 is a happy AR-15. I've got three of them right now and would be more than happy to let any neophyte shoot them as long as they provide/pay for the blammo. So we're shooting for some date in Spring, eh? |
i'm in kenosha so i'll be willing to travel where ever.
Offer stands to anyone in the southeast corner, i have a great place to shoot email me for details.( you FIB'S can go to if your close enough) |
