That's the first one I thought of.

Knights of Sidonia might be another possibility, though there are aspects of it that some people wouldn't like.

I started Parasyte and I'm digging it so far. It's obviously inspired by The Thing; which is one of my favorite movies.

I absolutely HATE the opening song, though. Maybe they wanted your ears to experience the sensation of an alien burrowing into them. That's the only explanation that makes sense.

Can't wait for Steins;gate 0 to come out.

On a side note, new episode of Taboo Tattoo was interdasting.

I think my solution must be that I just need to watch literally everything.

Also it's interesting that you dropped and Hated Steins Gate while it's one of my absolute favorite of all time. Just shows different tastes and thought patterns.

When read phonetically, they sound similar, and my half-awake brain got a laugh out of it.

What kind of live action productions do you enjoy? If you like the Godfather, 91 days is pretty good since it deals with Prohibition era mob families and a revenge plot.

Since there are so many different things to see, I'd actually say you haven't seen the one you like. But I'd also say there is one, like Cowboy Bebop the English dub being like Firefly but with bounty hunters.

Watched re:zero this weekend.

Does this thing end up with him waking up in the hospital after getting creamed by a truck outside the store? It was all a dream.

If you didn't grow up watching it I'd imagine it's very difficult to get into.  Anime is weird.

Saw my first anime series back around 1980 or so when I was a child.

Local station used to show "Starblazers" (aka Space Battleship Yamato) and something called "Force Five" which was five different series.  Each day of the week would be a different series:  Gaiking (aka Divine Demon-Dragon Gaiking); Dangard Ace (aka Planatary Robot Dangard Ace); Starvengers (aka Getter Robo G); Grandizer (aka UFO Robot Grendizier) and Spaceketeers (aka Sci-Fi West Saga Starzinger)

A few years later, a local channel also showed episodes of "Tranzor Z" (aka Mazinger Z).

When I first got to college, I discovered that they had an anime club that met weekly and showed probably about 2 or 3 hours of anime per meeting.  Those were some good times.

I have to give Gantz a hearty recommendation. However, it has some strong horror elements so if thats not your thing...
And while there is a prevalent sci-fi aspect to it (trying not to give away too much info here, sorry if this seems vague), as I said with the horror aspect it might go beyond "gritty", depending on how you define that. And the english dub is actually pretty decent. (In my opinion, anyway.)

Yes - even though we can't forget that Subaru is always just one death away from having it all torn away, it's nice to have some happiness for a change...
