I started Parasyte and I'm digging it so far. It's obviously inspired by The Thing; which is one of my favorite movies.
I absolutely HATE the opening song, though. Maybe they wanted your ears to experience the sensation of an alien burrowing into them. That's the only explanation that makes sense. |

I think my solution must be that I just need to watch literally everything.
Also it's interesting that you dropped and Hated Steins Gate while it's one of my absolute favorite of all time. Just shows different tastes and thought patterns. |

Saw my first anime series back around 1980 or so when I was a child.
Local station used to show "Starblazers" (aka Space Battleship Yamato) and something called "Force Five" which was five different series. Each day of the week would be a different series: Gaiking (aka Divine Demon-Dragon Gaiking); Dangard Ace (aka Planatary Robot Dangard Ace); Starvengers (aka Getter Robo G); Grandizer (aka UFO Robot Grendizier) and Spaceketeers (aka Sci-Fi West Saga Starzinger) A few years later, a local channel also showed episodes of "Tranzor Z" (aka Mazinger Z). When I first got to college, I discovered that they had an anime club that met weekly and showed probably about 2 or 3 hours of anime per meeting. Those were some good times. |

However, it has some strong horror elements so if thats not your thing... And while there is a prevalent sci-fi aspect to it (trying not to give away too much info here, sorry if this seems vague), as I said with the horror aspect it might go beyond "gritty", depending on how you define that. And the english dub is actually pretty decent. (In my opinion, anyway.) |

Cowboy Bebop is definitely a great show to get started with. Knockin' on Heaven's Door is great also. Really great way to tell a story within a story.

Finally finished SAO: Extra Edition. Kinda confused/disappointed with the end quest, but so were the characters, so I guess I'm in good company
 Going to start SAOII tomorrow. Also - Psycho Pass is pretty awesome also. Very cool concept and a great story. |
