I was home sick with the flu all weekend and Monday and discovered Attack on Titan on Netflix.

Watched ALL 25 episodes.

Anyone know when I can see more?

One OVA is already out, second one should be a month or so away.

There has been no news on a second season. I have been told they don't have enough source material for another season at this point, so don't expect anything anytime soon.

My guess is sometime around when they release the second season of Highschool of the Dead. Maybe sooner.

The manga is pretty far ahead of the show.

Well, that's what teenagers do.  Why would a zombie apocalypse change that?

Cat Shit One is being done as OVA episodes, so they should be able to crank them out faster than a show that's being released as entire seasons at a time.

Given that, the next episode of Cat Shit One should be out at least a couple weeks earlier than those other shows.

Kid friendly? I wouldn't say so with all the sexual and alcohol related content.  It just has a lot of cute stuff.

There's been a lot of different Gundam series over the years, not all of them connected or in the same universe. Most of those including many of the early ones do take place in space.

Though the only ones I ever liked and truly enjoyed were a bit more grounded in both the literal and figurative sense: 08th Team which discards the one man army formula of the other shows and instead closely follows a bunch of regular soldiers in their day to day struggles. And Gundam 0080, which if I'm honest, really changed me as a person. At the age I first saw that show it was gut wrenching and I've never felt the same way about things ever since.

I remember really appreciating the gritty military feel of the show. I'm going to have to get it on DVD.

Heh, those DVD's were my gateway anime. Was in the local comic shop one time, must have been buying pokemon cards or something lol - They had the 8th Team set on the counter and I thought "hey this looks cool, I'll take those what the heck." Next thing you know I'm hooked and my friends are always coming over asking to play the cartoon with the naked girls in it.

Is there any sort of pattern to how they decide what shows get another season?

Highschool of the Dead still waiting on another season is easy enough to understand, since everybody is still waiting on the guy who wrote it to decide to finish a few more chapters.

Other shows have done one season, then maybe an OVA or two, then... nothing.... even though the manga or light novel series they were based on had plenty of additional material already published.

Then there are shows that kept going and going, until long after you got tired of watching them.  How did they get season after season, while other good shows can't seem to get more than a dozen or so episodes?

Confirmed that there won't be, or just based off of how long it's been out?

Pretty sure the manga is still going. They probably just need more material to make season 2.

Think of what happened with Eva. It still sells well today, therefor it gets additional material.

Aoi Hana. The unanimous pinnacle of the yuri-genre. Sold very well, excellent and realistic story, but was originally a filler series. Will never get another season despite a vast amount of additional material.

The typical format:

Manga or Light Novel- If the series gets enough sales attention it may get a drama cd.

Drama CD- If the drama cd gets enough attention it may get an OVA or two.

OVA-Series- If the OVA series gets enough attention it may get chosen to be turned into an anime.

Anime-Series- Usually it stops here.

"After Anime-Series OVAs"- If the anime series did well in sales, the additional OVAs are used to drum up additional attention in the hopes of another anime season being produced. "Almost-always" fails here.

Typical "This is in trouble" signs:

A change of airing times.

A change in airing dates.

A "missed" week of airing.

"Excess filler material"

A drop in quality of story or animation quality.

"This seems a bit too rushed"
WattaMote was a manga that should've NOT gotten an anime. I was pretty vocal about that when they made the anime announcement.

Every manga or light novel that I really like, that get's turned into an anime, gets fucked up once it becomes known. Which is one of the reasons I haven't been reading a lot of manga or light novels recently.

Examples:

Aoi Hana (FINISH THE FUCKING STORY AS AN ANIME!!!)

Freezing

Gosick (Light Novels)

Gunslinger Girl

Ikoku Meiro no Croise

Kashimashi

Morita-san wa Mukuchi

Photo Kano

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) (FINISH THE FUCKING STORY AS AN ANIME!!!)

WatteMote

Mirai Nikki

Sasameki Koto (FINISH THE FUCKING STORY AS AN ANIME!!!)

Tasogare Otome X Amnesia

Yuyushiki (Manga) (I admit they didn't do a bad job)

My last bastion is Waratte Sotomura-san. Even it is on the way to an anime, as they've already done a drama-cd series.

The first season of the Sword Art Online anime "seemed a bit too rushed".  They left out a fair amount of material, including a side arc that was the setup for the later (volume 8 of the light novels, as I recall) quest for Excalibur.  At least we're getting a second season of SAO, this summer.  I'm hoping that the Excalibur quest is included in that season, since it's an extension of the GGO arc that the second season will cover.

Log horizon just finished a run of 25 episodes, and they're already scheduled for another season in the fall.

Kingdom ran for 38 episodes, then came back fairly quickly (compared to the wait for a second season of some shows) and did a second run of 39 episodes.  Maybe historical drama is a bit of an exception to the merchandizing rules, for educational purposes.
