So I was skimming through older pages of this thread...

Do folks here not like Gintama?

Because it is one of my favorites

Aside from the clip you posted, I've never tried to watch it. Probably because it's intimidating that there are a huge number of episodes. I don't tend to favor the action genre but it looks like it rather has more a comedic focus. The anime comedy genre has certainly grown on me. So, it might be worth a shot sometime.

I started watching it. Only about six episodes in but I think I'll like it. Soooooo many episodes though!

Even though there are a lot of episodes to Gintama it's not like other anime where you need to binge it.

It will always be there so I like to pick it up when I'm in the mood for comedic stuff.  In a way it's like an anime version of Family Guy.

The best part is the side story parts are generally more thought out than Family Guy.  It has lots of ultra talented voice actors and the creator excel at Trolling the audience.

Here are two clips that summarize what makes it so special.

While continuing to watch Rewrite with its ups and downs, and after finishing School-Live! (Gakko Gurashi!), which had more than its share of gut-wrenching moments, I expect that watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica will keep the intensely depressing mood going for a while longer...

BTW, I took a slight detour and just binge watched the first 12 episodes of Psycho-Pass - and it's very impressive stuff... Interesting premise, fast action, nefarious villains, good guys treated as if they were bad guys, a few more plot twists thrown into the mix, bizarro smart guns - what's not to like?

Now I must decide whether to continue to the next season of Psycho-Pass, or go back to the depression of Madoka... Decisions, decisions...

OK now - after binge watching 22 episodes of Psycho-Pass, with 11 more to go, I definitely made the right decision. Awesome storyline, graphics, character development.

Looks like quite a few shows are returning for new seasons, this spring.

Shingeki no Kyojin
Boku no Hero Academia
Kekkai Sensen

among others.

They are also doing an anime of the Sword Oratoria spinoff of Dungeon ni Deal (Is It Alright To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon?).  Sword Oratoria goes back to the beginning and shows the story from the point of view of Aiz Wallenstein.

Kono Suba is pretty damn funny, and defies the typical genre tropes.

Kuromukuro isn't bad. Two seasons on Netflix. Aliens, ogres, giant mecha, and a 450 year old, curry-cooking Samurai.

Volume 1 of the official English translation of the spinoff novels is already out.  It's pretty good.

When I went looking for lists of anime for the spring season, I initially thought they were saying that there was going to be a second season of the main story, which would be good, but then I realized they were saying that it was Sword Oratoria, not the main storyline, which is also good.

The Sword Oratoria light novel gives a lot of insight in Aiz's character.

Five episodes in to The Saga of Tanya the Evil.

Started watching entirely due to its premise. Salaryman runs afoul of God, says things he shouldn't have to said divine being. Gets killed, then reincarnated into a little girl with magical abilities born shortly before what appears to be World War One in an alternate dimension breaks out.

Much better than I was expecting. Very light on the fanservice, very heavy on guns and military tactics.

It's essentially the life of a salaryman translated into a war theater.

He's a cynical asshole and the idea that Being X put him in the body of a little girl is hilarious.

Exactly, good premise. But also well written. A combination I don't get to see as often as I would like.

But why do bad things always seem to happen to good salarymen?

(Interesting juxtaposition of at least three starkly different personalities - the suck-up who wants an easy life, the uber-competent thinker and leader, and the cruel and sadistic kid who figuratively pulls the wings off of flies or tortures small animals).

This guy has some insights.  He blames the issues on how Japanese studios structure their production schedules.

It sounds pretty inefficient.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? - Fantasy world, dungeon crawling
Re:Zero - Guy transfered to a fantasy world, when he dies he resets to his last "save point"
Kono Suba - Guy dies, reincarnated in fantasy world to be a hero, comedy
Gate - Gate opens in Japan connecting to a fantasy world (modern military vs fantasy)
Overlord - Guy trapped in a fantasy world thru a game, magic and monsters shit
Rage of Bahamut - Magic, angels, demons, dragons
Akame ga Kill! - Medieval fantasy world, assassins, revolution, weapons that grant powers

Berserk - Some old school fantasy graphic hack and slash, king of kings, everyone should watch

Crunchyroll having problems, it seems...

Can't connect via Roku player, getting mostly 500 server errors via the web.

I signed up for Amazon Strike when Crunchyroll was 'down'.

Glad that I did - I had wanted to see One Punch Man - just binge watched season 1, well worth it.

So what next? Scum's Wish? Clannad? Something else?

Too many choices...

Well, that's certainly 'different'...

I'm about halfway through ep. 1 and haven't figured out whether I like it or not.

The artwork alternates between being catchy and crude.

The action and dialog are really over the top.

I'll give it some more time and see what happens...

Clannad is admittedly an investment. The first season is largely character building and sets the stage for the meat of the story, which is After Story.

It's not an action series, if that's what you're into. It's a dramatic tragedy.

I like pretty much everything: My Anime List

I just found Clannad to be too boring to finish, which is really disappointing because I've heard for years about how good it is. To each his own.

Now that I have read the first and second volumes of Dungeon ni Deal...: Sword Oratoria light novels, I have high hopes for the anime that is coming, this spring.

As I recall, the Dungeon ni Deal anime covered the first five volumes of the light novels.

I don't know how many volumes of Sword Oratoria have been released in Japan, but the licensed translations are only to the second volume.

ETA:  Looks like 6 volumes of the Sword Oratoria light novels have been released in Japan, so they should have plenty of source material for the new anime.  I hope this leads to another season of the main story, similar to how the Index/Railgun anime has been released.  Quite a bit happens in volume 6 of Dungeon ni Deal.
