Here's a manga thats right up Arfcom's alley:

I Am A Hero
by Hanazawa Kengo

The story follows Hideo Suzuki, a down-on-his-luck manga artist struggling to publish his own work while maintaining both a day job as another artist's assistant and a strained relationship with his girlfriend. Hideo is shown to be mentally disturbed, often having conversations with an imaginary figure named Yajima, hallucinating the presence of faces under his bed and at his window, and fantasizing about how conversations with his co-workers and girlfriend should proceed. Above all, he sees himself as the hero of a manga, despite all appearances to the contrary.

One day, after returning from work late in the evening, Hideo witnesses a traffic accident in which a car crashes into a nearby pedestrian, killing the victim instantly. However, despite severe injuries including a broken neck, the victim's body stands up and walks away. Hideo questions again whether this is another one of his hallucinations; however, strange events begin happening around him, though he refuses to fully acknowledge them, blaming his stress and over-time work is contributing to himself seeing things.

Its a horror/zombie apocalypse centered around a protagonist with some mental issues. Be advised, the WTF factor is high.

Have there been any more manga chapters released? Last time I checked, they were still a few manga chapters short of having enough material for a second season (based on how many chapters were covered by the first season}.

A new anime that I have been really enjoying, that I don't remember being mentioned here is "Accel World". I was rather pleased to find it on Hulu Plus last night so I don't have to watch it on my laptop from streaming sites. It is a cyberpunk/videogame fight type story where the lead is a loser fat kid that gets recruited into a secret online fighting game that allows users to accelerate their mental awareness to speeds that make time seem to stop. It occurs in a near future with cyber implants allowing augmented reality. The plot tropes aren't particularly origninal, but the interactions are entertaining and the character designs are quite good. I'm not really familiar with other internet game centered anime but the art is great and even though the main character is a loser crybaby, he has enough shame to be honest about it.

I just wanted to add a +1 to Accel World. Descriptions of it all sound kinda old hat, but it does a really good job with making it fresh and having characters that are fun. I really thought the main character would bother me since, as you said, he is a bit of a loser stereotype, but he knows it and is honest about it and the having the strength to do that will probably play out well in the series.

The loser's senpai (who the entire student body looks up to) also has shortcomings that she knows about, but she is far more reluctant to admit them to others, though that does start to change as the series progresses.

The girl who is the loser's childhood friend, also throws some twists into the story.

Their culture is not as biased toward a tidy happy ending like ours. There are other factors like a production budget running out near the end of a series, or a sereis that runs out of material because the manga it's based on isn't finnished. Could be that there were hopes for a second season, but it never happened.

I feel it has to do with it being a non-christian society. The primary religion of the west has a happy ending to it's doctrine and that has an influence on our stories. Could be that they don't nessasarily dumb down their material the way so much of our entertainment does.

You haven't missed anything in noticing that a ton of anime endings suck.

What's up with that happy ending? Oh Japan, how the king of weird and dissatisfying endings has fallen.

I was expecting Yuuko to possess Kirie so they could take turns with Teiichi, but maybe they're saving that for season two.

Types of anime endings (not a complete list):

- OH NO! We're not getting approval for any more episodes, so we've gotta wrap this up somehow.

- We're optimisitc that another season will be approved, so we'll take care of the ending then.

- We've used up all the storyline that has been published in the manga, so we're going to take a guess at where this is going.

- Sure, the manga is extremely popular and people will watch the anime just because it's based on the manga, but we've got our own ideas on how the story/characters/setting should be done. (not so much an ending, but tends to result in endings that are caused by this attitude)

- Good ending. (yes, they do happen, from time to time)

As opposed to watching bad Jap voice acting and animation?

If I had to pick between Jersey Shore and Anime, I'd just blow my head off.

Try watching something that is less than 20 years old, and not written for the 12 and younger audience.

Just finished watching Broken Blade. It has magic powered mechs and some elements from Gundam Seed and age appropriate characters for the most part.

You know as much as I love anime. I hate the Tokusatsu "rubber suit" shows with the burning passion of a thousand suns.

How could a culture that makes something as good as anime make something as bad as that? And they love it!

No, American TV has got to be the dumbest shit I've ever seen. All that purple dinosaur and comfy couch stuff is very disturbing.

You know as much as I love anime. I hate the Tokusatsu "rubber suit" shows with the burning passion of a thousand suns.

How could a culture that makes something as good as anime make something as bad as that? And they love it!

Barney and The Big Comfy Couch did fairly well, here.

I know, I almost wish I would have waited until the season was over so I could do a marathon.

ETA- It's also disturbing that an anime thread is 75 pages long.

As opposed to watching bad Jap voice acting and animation?

If I had to pick between Jersey Shore and Anime, I'd just blow my head off.

This thread should be merged with the creepy thread...

Some of the dumbest shit I have read on this site is posted by you. Congratulations.

It's not a bad episode per se, it follows the flow well of the other episodes. It just felt truncated for a season finale.

I've been busy and got behind on some of the shows, so I'll just take a wild guess with:

- The director is off his meds

You question the director's grand vision of this story??? For no other reason than you lack the patience to wait for the second season to start???
