What do you guys think of putting a pistol grip stock on pump shotguns (Moss 500 in my case)? I don't mean for field use just my if SHTF-personal defense 18" barreled gun. Thanks in advance for any ideas.[^] [V]

If you are talking about a full length stock with a pistol grip then I say go for it. If you are talking about just a pistol grip only then I say spend more money on a good semi-auto pistol, night sights, range time and ammo.

Do it I have shot quail and rabbits with mine. No butt, just the pistol. Just shoot it 25 rounds a week til you get used to it. cpermd

I own a Mossberg 500 with a pistol grip. The gun looks cool but it hurts to shoot it! My hand was swolen and hurt for 2 days after shooting about 20 rounds. I now attempt to absorb the recoil with my front hand when I shoot. My .02 cents...

Yeah I would go along with USNJoe, and get the pistol grip with the full stock. That what I have and it works well. Get the one piece model and not the "convertable" one. They tend to flex and twist under fire.

The Choate pistol gripped stock with adjustable length of pull is good.

Yes I was referring to a full stock with a pistol grip. Is that the type you had trouble with Paul? Was that a Remington or Mossberg?

I put the Choate pistol grip stock on my Mossy 500... then added the Surefire fore end and an OTK reflex sight... I love it.

A mossberg 500 in 20ga is quite comfortable with a pistol grip, unlike the 12ga, which is a bear. having a pistol grip on the fore stock makes it a little better. the 20ga option may be a good idea if you want this for indoors (or blasting snakes...)

I have a pistol grip choate stock on my 18 inch barrel 870 express. I can reload special or normal ammo from the side saddle while still keeping the gun on target and have the option of butt-stroking an opponent if I don't need to use lethal force.....

I have one of Advanced Tech top fold on my 590 mosse, I like it a lot. Press a button and you have a full stock, press it again and you have a pistal griped shot gun. To cool.

I am of the OPINION that pistol-grips should be reserved for semi-auto shotguns, only. It comes in handy when pulling the weapon back on target for a second shot. If you have to pump, this becomes moot. IMHO
