the new girl's post had me wondering what people's first PURCHASE was and if there is any sense of progression to an ar-15.

i started with a stainless ruger mark ii pistol. it allowed me to develop my skills and shoot a ton of ammo at a cheap price. and it still fills that role very well.

i'm looking forward to it as my son/daughter's first pistol.

My first purchase was a S&W 686 .357 magnum, great gun and still works great today, the wife has decided it is hers. I won't be buying any new S&W (sellout) guns though.

rifle: 10/22.  indespensable
pistol: SIG 228

Solid choices.  I would do a 229 today instead , but they didn't make it when I bought the 228

Mossberg 500, back when I was 15. Sold it in 1979, but bought another one 5 years ago.

The first gun I purchased my self was a Mossberg 590.  It works great but my next shotgun will be a Pre Ban Benelli M1 S90, folowed by an M3.

OK, honestly, my very first gun purchase was a Colt 20" HBAR about 6 years ago.[sniper]

Followed very closely by a Sig P220.

I was determined to do it right the first time!  Since then, I progressed through a Colt shorty, then down through various "other" category guns, and then back up to 2 Bushmasters and an Armalite.

Marlin 30-30.  When I make it back up to Washington State, I will definitely buy another one.

Well, when I turned 18 the first longgun I bought legally was a Remington Wingmaster 870 in 16 gauge... and yes, I'd buy it again.

When I turned 21 I bought two handguns... an Colt 1911A1 (manufactured in 42) and a HK P7M8 and I'd buy either again in a heartbeat

The first gun I bought was a pre-ban Colt AR-15 for $600. Would I buy it again?....You've gotta be shitting me.

First Rifle:  Russian TOZ-17-1 for the low, low price of $47 at the local army-navy store.  Still have it and it's a great little plinker.

First Pistol:  Rossi 851.  I had just gotten a job as an armed security guard and we could only carry .38s.  I was supposed to start in a couple of days and this was the best I could find at the local shop.

My first long gun was a Browning BPS 12ga. And my first handgun was a Browning Highpower. Kinda like the Browning family of weapons. Still have both today and would buy them again. Both are over 20 years old and still perform like new.

First purchase was a Sig 225, and to this day remains my primary carry piece.  Well, at least until I think the Glock 21 is feeling lonely [:D]

Ruger 10/22. I would definetly buy another and actually plan on buying another. So many variations so little time.....

I bough mine when i was 14 with the mney I had saved up for over a year. I've never had more fun with a gun than I did with that gun.

My first purchase was in 1984 - two guns at one time:
A Ruger Mini-14, and a S&W 629 44Mag.  I doubt I'd by the Mini again since I have multiple AR-15's, but I'd never buy another S&W for any reason.

I don't remember what I payed for them, but I pretty much got my money back when I sold them.

My first gun was actually a gift.  An Enfield MKIII (sporterized).  My first gun purchase was a used Ithaca 12 gauge model 37 "police special" on the 18 inch barrel.  Both became expensive to shoot and the indoor range only didn't allow FMJ, so then I bought a Romanian .22 trainer.  Finally after saving my pennies I "impulse bought" my AR last June, a Bushmaster "Shorty AK" Carbine.

And Yes I'm happy with the route I took.

First gun,a HK USP 9mm,15 years old at the time. Followed by a Bushmaster 14.5" HB carbine about 4 months later. Sold the carbine about 18 months later.

Shoulda bought the Sig or Beretta.

My first gun was a pre-ban 9mm Smith and Wesson Sigma with 17-round mags.

I would not buy this again -- it's a nice gun but I won't buy anything from Smith and Wesson since the Klinton sell-out.

My dad taught me to shoot with a Marlin lever-action .22...great gun!

The first gun I purchased was a S&W 422 .22 pistol.  It was perfect for my learning curve at the time, and I learned a lot!  Great little gun!

But due to S&W politics, I would not buy another.

Yes, I'd buy my first gun over again.  It was a Mosin Nagant M44.  There's not much to go wrong with it.  The second gun was a Marlin Model 60.  I'm proud to say that it's now the communial property of my large family.  My third gun was an Olypmic Arms AR-15.  I would not buy that one again.  Yes, I hang-out here a lot, and I don't own a working AR.  It's a little sad.z

first gun was a Ruger GP-100.  Taught both me and ARlady how to shoot  Still have it, and would buy it again.  It's 6" stainless with full underlug barrel.  Heavy as hell, but when you run .38's through it feels like your shooting a .22!

Even the full house .357s don't kick that bad!  Love it!

First rifle I purchased was an SKS. Hey for $90 bucks I figured I couldn't go wrong. I sold it for $175 about a year later.
First pistol was a Sig P220. Still have it and it's not going anywhere. I picked up the Bushmaster carbine last year and the M1A in March.

I bought my first rifle the day I turned 18. It was a Mini 14, blue model, wood stock. $249.00 from GEMCO department stores.

My first handgun was a Smith and Wesson model 469 9mm. (it is still my main handgun)
I would not buy the Mini again.
I would not buy anything made by S&W again.

The first rifle I'd ever shot was the HK93A3.  I wish I could buy it, but it belong to the military, NOT US armed forces, of course.

The first handgun was the Walter PPK clone by KBI, it was ok, except I wish the frame was steel instead of alloy- sold that a year later.

Rockola MFG.. Bought it for 100.00 in 89..It was fun to shoot, but went through extractors kind of fast..

HK-91, worked and saved all summer and made the purchase.  It costs 699.00 at the time and I was sorry later that I paid full retail price.

First long gun would have been the Ruger 10/22 which seems to be a popular starter. First handgun would have been a ruger p-89.  Loved the 10/22 hated the p-89.  When I turned 21, instead of buying a drink, I purchase a HK USP40.  Loved the HK allot.  I now have a HK USP Compact and want a full size HK USP.
