Watching 'Band of Brothers' I noticed they use a different phonetic alphabet then today. Is it the same one that police use? Also, when did they change it?

In the Marines, the unit names are very staight forward. 1st/2nd/4rd/4th Marine Division, with Regts/BN/Co/Plts under them. ie 'Alpha' Co/1st Bn/1st Marine Reg/1st Marine Div....pretty simple.

How are the unit numbers broken out logically in the Army?

Which phonetic alphabet do you want?

Alfa, Bravo, Charlie, etc....

or

Adam, Baker, Charlie.. etc

I tried to find the WW II phoenetic alphabet months ago with no luck. I remember it starting this way:

Able
Baker
Charlie
Dog
Easy
Fox
