I've got a Colt 16" M4 bbl, last weekend my last 3 shot group was so close you could cover all 3 holes with a quarter.

cool. I've got a 16" wilson pre-ban w/ an A1 upper on a PWA lower and my groups are so big that i could barely hit a paper plate at 100 yds? I'm trying to figure out whats going on. I know it's not me cuz I had just put a 6" group on a paper plate w/ and sks.

accuracy doesnt matter on how short the barrel is, but it does sound like ya need a new one...

Yea, what ammo ? FWIW, my 16" HB Colt hates Federal AE 55gr... But, does 10x better with S&B and IMI.
Go figure.

I put wolf, pwc, pmc, winchester q3131a, win q3131, umc, imi, federal AE, and some south aferican surplus 62 grain w/ poor results from all. the barrel's new. under 1000 rds new and i broke it in too. It's not lose or any thing. could the guy who I bought it from have mated it to the upper wrong or something?

I was using South African 55gr,Do you have any play between your upper and lower? And yes ,I was using iron sights. The guy that was with me has the same set up as I do and also had tight groups. We are both using Colt pre-ban slab side lowers, mine is sp1 and his is an A2,with Colt M4 uppers and Colt collapsible stocks.Upper and lower fit is perfect on both rifles.

It should not matter if there was "play" between the upper and the lower.
Since you are shooting a wide variety of ammunition with the same results then maybe it is your shooting style. It could be that you are anticipating the shot and flinching when it goes off.

Tyrus, sight in at 25yards and see how your group is then graduate out to 50 and then 100.You may have other problems, like bbl lineup pin alignment or improperly adjusted sights.
