ok, i also have an ak shorty, and i just got a 16" vmatch. i noticed the muzzle flash of vmatch MORE then the shorty. the ak brake dissapates the flash in differnt directions and the shorty just throws a big 2' fireball out the front of the barrel. after telling everybody i know that they should NOT get an ak74 brake because the recoil of the .223 is minimal(sp?)i feel i have made a mistake, after shooting the vmatch. that anoying muzzle jump makes it hard to keep on target with the vmatch, while the ak shorty glides right through multiple targets. in conclusion, the ak74 brake works great, flash is flash weather its going up, down, sideways or straight out the front of the barrel. beleive me i would rather have a flash hider then a brake on my ar but that will never happen legally in my state. good luck
