You may have noticed the byline on ABC News recent story covering the NRAs pledge to ask mayors and police chiefs to sign a petition stating they will uphold their legal duties not to confiscate weapons from law-abiding citizens during time of crisis a la Katrina.

ABC News
New NRA Campaign Asks Lawmakers to Pledge Not to Confiscate Guns in Times of Crisis
Ad Campaign Begins Tomorrow, NRA Reacts to Hurricanes Katrina, Rita
By JAKE TAPPER and AVERY MILLER

Hmmmm, you mean the Jake Tapper who used to write for Salon.com? I wonder what happens if we google his name and the words "NRA"

About the writer
Jake Tapper is the Washington correspondent for Salon News and a former employee of Handgun Control Inc.

Here is just the tiniest sample of the anti-gun, anti-NRA, stories he did for Salon. You can find dozens more if that kind of thing interests you:
archive.salon.com/politics/feature/2001/05/15/guns/print.html
archive.salon.com/politics/feature/2001/03/06/guns/index.html
archive.salon.com/politics2000/feature/2000/05/17/bush/index.html
www.salon.com/news/feature/1999/08/12/nra/index.html
www.salon.com/news/feature/1999/08/11/gun/index.html

Gee, I guess ABC News sees no problem with having a former employee and advocate for Handgun Control cover the NRA? Talk about media bias...

Here is a page where you can let ABC know that hiring lobbyists for the other side to cover the NRA isn't the most ethical practice, even for mainstream media...

Good work, another example of Media Bias.

Not much different than having former Clinton Official (Stephanopolous) pretend to be a journalist and host This Week....

Wonder when they will hire an Ex-NRA member to cover HCI/Brady attempts to deny gun owners their lawful rights....

So what else is new?  Most of the news media considers the VPC/HCI, Brady Org etc to be authorative sources of gun info.  Ever wonder why they never question or they gently question when the news media people do on camera interviews of these people.

In all fairness, ABC isn't claiming to be fair and balanced...

The info has been forwarded to the NRA, Cam Edwards, and Instapundit in hopes they will take a look at it. Naturally, I encourage anybody here to forward the link or the story to any other sites that might be willing to spread the word and bring a little pressure on ABC concerning their reporting ethics.

The link where Tapper acknowledges being a former HCI employee is here:
archive.salon.com/politics2000/feature/2000/05/17/bush/index2.html

Somebody might want to take a screen shot of that in case Tapper's former employers at Salon decide to pull it (in case this gains traction). I plan to take one; but supporting sources are always nice.

Just more reasons why I believe all the media should be dragged into the street and summarily shot. Or hung from lamposts....take your pick.

Thanks again to everyone who spread the word. As a result, several pro-RKBA groups have picked up the story and spread it around some more and SAF issued a news release on it. Hopefully, the NRA will pick up on it as well and let their members know...not that most of them don't realize the hyprocrisy already.
