Big Caution On The Turkish 8mm Surplus Ammo Being Sold

From 1919A4.com Today:

Link

Well..... broke in my 1919 in more ways than one. put about 200+ rounds of turk thru then BAMMM. bent topcover and gas came shooting out in backplate trigger plate slot also a piece of brass. It hit the middle of my pelvic girdle and traveled off to the right about 3-4 inches in and now sits over my hip joint. After a trip to ER and a Cat scan they advised me it would be ore of a hassel to get it out since it didnt hit anything vital. Went right through the arterial canal. LOL... anywone ever hear of crap ducting through the backplate trigger hole????

Turk 8mm is some bad juju. Loaded extremely hot but inconsistant. I'd shoot it through my Mauser and be lucky to get 3-5 shots off in succession before the bolt with be held closed from the heat and pressure

I went with .308 for my 1919 because there is just too much 8mm garbage out there. There is at least one guy a week on 1919A4.com blowing up his 1919 because he used junk 8mm surplus ammo. After you factor in that all the 8mm barrels are aftermarket, and most of them are made from sub-quality metal, and that they're in the $200-$250 price range (compared to $45 for New-In-Wrap REAL IMI chrome lined .308 barrels), it just doesn't make much sense to have a 8mm 1919A4.

The excellent (90%) barrels that are 3/100 are very nice, I have three of them.

Cole Distributing---See bottom of page. I ordered 7 of the 98% condition barrels, and 5 of the 7 were brand new still sealed in the wrapper (they only guarantee them to be 98%). The other two were mint and appeared unused (but the wrapper was cut). These are IMI manufacture and chrome lined. Top notch military contract quality. The best there is for a 1919.

I've got to say the Turk has been known to be fairly low quality for a while now, in fatc I havent seen it for sale anywhere in a while either.

I have been throughly satisfied with everything I have bought from Cole's. I also purchased a WWII dated M2 tripod from Cole's that was much better than what he described it as.

Go to Ohio Ordnance Works, www.ohioordnanceworks.com/Misc/50cal%20Part%20Set.htm. Same price but you get the sights too. The 299.95 kits are said to be a great value. Check out 1919a4.com for the latest word on best kits and best prices. Cole's is the place for tripods right now though.
