I juat got back from a mission inside a foreign country. My family went on vacation in Sunny California. I bet there was some sun over the SMOG. Criminies, how the hell do y'all breathe. Disneyland was a blast, and I loved getting on the boogie board. My daughter had never seen the ocean so this was a pretty memorable trip. I will also never forget:
That most everyone I saw was either Hispanic or Asian. English was hard to come by.How sad it is to lose such a beautiful place. Cali could be saved, but considering the tremendous immigrant population, I think it would require carpet bombing ala the Battle of Britain( ya can't nuke it cuz you'd lose the use of some great agricultural areas).

"sad to lose such a beautiful place"
I lived in Daly City,California almost my whole life up until a few years ago.
I found that California's diversity to be one of the things I miss most now.Without the diversity it has,it would not have THE BEST FOOD IN THE UNIVERSE.I swear man,I cannot get decent Chinese or Mexican food over here in Orlando.
By the way,all my Chinese friends over there spoke perfect english,so I dunno why you are making such a big deal. And they were into the same stuff any American is in to.Because they ARE Americans.
We never lost California.
I enjoy visiting the state yearly.

Maybe I should clarify that I don't dislike immigrants. I dislike people who come to our country, the land of opportunity, and make no effort to become an American. Retaining your former culture is fine, just remember that you left some other place to come here because wherever it is you came from was not providing you with the level of lifestyle you can earn here.(Hows that for a run-on sentance.) I have some great friends who are hispanic(as well as Asian, and my boss is Armenian) but they are AMERICANS now.

I meant that the beauty was lost to SMOG, I guess I didn't make that clear. I wonder what that place was like in the 1920's. I'll bet it was gorgeous.

Smog does effect alot of Cali.
San Francisco still has some of the best weather, and the fog comes in and cleans out the skies.Very fresh, cool air in the bay area.

I did forget to mention that Kalifornians drive like POOP! I'm sure they didn't like that big van with Nevada plates actually doing the speed limit. Where the hell are they going in such a hurry? The rush our Traffic will still be waiting for 'em. Oh, yeah, why do they bother to equip cars in PRK with turn signals. Wouldn't it be more "environmentally friendly" not to waste the plastic on an item NOBODY uses?

Did you even bother to travel outside of the LA area?  I went to LA once and you are 100% correct, but come on up to Northern California and I will show you a Redwood tree that's so big you could drive a truck thru it!!!  And you wouldn't be able to see the top of that eather because it's so freaking big, not because of smog!!

Hell, I'll take you up to Auburn and show you deer, mountain lions, bear and a butt load of squirrels!!  I will show you more fishing streams and fish than anyplace this side of the Mississippi!!  I'll show you Lake Tahoe, the deapest lake in the USA!!.  I'll show you Fort Brag, Travis AFB, and Vacaville California {home of the great JellyBelly factory)!!

Fact is this, California is more than just L.A and San Fransico. As a matter of fact, we could split this state in half, Northern California would probably be the biggest conservative population in the world!!

Yes this state is full of flaming liberal voters, but remember that most of them were not born here, they came from all those other so-called freedom loving states!!!

gunmonkey get out of the city like sgtar said. When I first moved out of the SF bay area to El Dorado county, I was barely there a week when I caught myself noticing that almost everyone was white! ( ok, caucasion for you PC people ). I was no longer in the minority.

All the weirdos and liberals came here from some other state and screwed it up. When I was growing up in Palo Alto, which is little more than half way from SF to San Jose, I could ride my bicycle a couple miles and shoot a .22 or BB gun in the orchards and it was perfectly ok. Now a  parent can get busted there if their kid is caught outside with one. Much less actually shooting it.

Come up here in the mountains where I live and you will discover there are a LOT of good, conservative, BoR believing people.

p.s. I'll even let you shoot your AR off my back, or we can listen to my neighbor blast away with his AK - all endorsed by the local sheriff deputy.

SGTAR15, yeah I have been outside of those crappy  areas( I was born in Fresno, my grandfather ran the shop at Fort Ord for 20 years, my parents both went to North Salinas high and I lived in Paskenta for a year once. I agree that Northern California is beautiful and sadly, on the wrong side of the Nevada border. There was once a drive to split CA/NV East-West instead of North-South so LA and Las vegas could be part of the same shitty state, and we could have Northern Ca and Northern NV together. I would love that. I disagree that most flaming liberal voters came from other states. I think they came from third world countries to the south(or are the naturalized children thereof) and don't think anything of the freedoms we cherish because traditionally, they are bullied by whatever cigar smoking general is runnin the show at home.
P.S. Come to the free side of Lake Tahoe, and you are practically in my back yard, come to the free side of Topaz Lake, and I'll meet up with ya and you can come to my house for dinner.

Don't sell the Asian population short.  If you remember back, the Chinese built the railroads in Calif.  The early Chinese were lowered down to drill hole in the side of a mountain, put a stick of dynamite in the hole, lite the fuse, of course sometimes the dynamite expoded before he reach safety.  Is there anybody that would do such a job today?

There is no doubt that the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia is a beautiful place.  Cuba is a beautiful place too, but it doesn't mean I want to live there.  I lived in Kali 12 years and just moved away last December.  I am in Los Angeles right now as a matter of fact.  I work in the Entertainment industry and spend a lot of time here.  Ever since I moved to Kali at the age of 18 in 1989 I felt like I was living in a police state.  What other state has checkpoints at its borders with other states?  Everything is expensive and taxes are high.  Parking is a bitch and traffic sucks.  The smog is so thick in LA that you can't see mountains that are only a 1 mile away.  Once you get outside of the big cities, it's a lot nicer and the people are more conservative.  I like Kalifornia a lot better when I'm not here.

People, People, People.....Take this from a CA native, who share the same interest as most of you out there.

If you ever visit CA, stay away from the following areas:

L.A. county, No. Orange County, S.F. Gay Area, Southern part of San Diego counties. Sorry to all the people that live there, but I am pretty you would agree with me when I say those areas have gone down hill.

If you must go to CA go see the following areas.

SoCal:
Palm Springs
Temecula
Newport Beach, Huntington Beach and Dana Point
Catalina Island
La Jolla
San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano

NoCal:
Marin and Sonoma County
Placer County
Shasta Lake
Lake Tahoe

Go to S.F. if you like to sight see, shop and restaurants. But stay in Marin County. Also stay away from the east bay of the Gay Area specially the Oakland area.

That should be enough to keep you busy. You will have a taste of the different things CA has to offer; Desert, Mountains, Wineries, Beaches, Oceans, Restaurants, Sight seeing, Sports and Shops.

Enjoy

You got the wrong impression of me. I'm not honestly interested in wholesale murder of foreigners. It's the ranting of a white guy who's beloved country has been deluged by folks who have come here and made no attempt to be like us. Apparently my sensitivity training didn't take, but I am irritated by the hordes of non-english speakers who come here and are offered a free ride by the socialist segment of our country. Multi cultulturalism is fine, if you can speak the common language of a nation. But don't be surprised by the anger of english speakers who are constantly trying to get basic societal rules across to non-english speakers. Things like "You must be 21 to drink alcohol" or "No, you can't say explicit things about 13 year old girls in public"

One thing you have to realize is tha LA has always boxed in smog/haze. I have heard that it was worse when only the indians lived there.

There are lots of neat places in San Diego county, and if you like the desert, Imperial county has some neat places as well.

I also like Tecate Mexico (and indeed, the rest of Baja with the exception of places like TJ), but don't take any firearms down there.

If you remember the LA riots, you probably also remember those Koreans up on the roofs with firearms.

Not all immigrants are bad, for sure. In fact, in many ways the "brown people" in places like LA are more American than the "white people". I suspect that the Filipinos in LA are more pro-RKBAs than their white neighbors. The same is also probably true of Koreans and Vietnamese.

Again I apologize if I have offended anyone, however, 50-40% either homosexual or bi-sexual. That's a lot !!!! that is 4 for every 10. Here in San Diego, Northpark is a "gay" area.

I have heard that Balboa Park has lots of gays in it, and there is another park just South of the 52 (which runs between from I-5 to Santee) which was mentioned in the Reader as a park with lots of gay "activities" (parents complained that their children witnessed groups of grown men playing "leap-frog".

In addition: Check out Mendocino and the surrounding areas for great diving, old-growth forest hikes, and art galore. Don't venture off-trail though. Major pot gow-ops in the boonie areas. Again, the Korean store owners are excellent examples of people who have embraced our values and utilized the tools of freedom at their disposal. My gripe is with the folks who don't bother to learn the language. I'll take an asian with broken Engrish over a hispanic who insists I speak Espanol any day.In fact, I can't remember a time in my life that I met an Asian who couldn't passably communicate in English. Maybe my ire should be entirely placed on Hispanics. Wow, this thread is a personal journey of self-discovery.

While I would agree that it would be nice that people who come to America would learn to speak english, I also realize that learning a new language is difficult to do in the best of circumstances.  Having a common language is a very good thing, and something that is very necessary.  However, I disagree with your last statement saying that people who earn money here should not send money home.  Why is that? Is this not a free country?  Do we not have a system of capitalism in place stating that you can do about whatever you want with your money?  (as a side note, yes we could argue that the US isn't truly free, and that we don't have a true capitalistic marketplace economy, but I choose to overlook these ideas for the sake of argument)  I have been to Mexico and I have no desire to ever go back.  I can not blame the people for getting out of that place.  The US gov't itself gives billions of dollars a year to countries in aid. (we could also argue over if this is right or wrong, but I won't) Many billions in military aid. about a billion each year to Columbia to fight the "war on drugs", and another billion to Israel to "maintain stability in the middle eastern states".  So I see no harm in sending money to your friends and family in supporting them, because it's hard enough to find a job where they live, and even harder finding a job which pays enough to live and support a family off of.  In the end, it's his money, he can do whatever the hell he wants with it.  This is America after all.

As for the gay remarks, I could care less what someone does in their bedroom, whether they screw a man, woman, goat, or tree, as long as it is of consenting age in the state.  I wouldn't choose that lifestyle for myself, but if that's what someone else wants, so what?

Just my asshole like rant for a first post here.  the LEGP ar-15 looks very nice.

Nomad-FA2, where is the diversity in Daly City? It's 90% Filipino and Chinese! :) Actually, I went to school near there in the mid-80's for 3 years and that was the impression I got. I kinda liked the town, other than the freezing cold fog in the middle of August. I was in Atlanta a while back and the three Mexican restaurants I went to produced the strangest concoctions I have ever tasted. I think the cook was Greek.

I admit the last few times I have been out of state to Nevada, Colorado, Oregon, etc., the drivers who were the biggest assholes were from California. All driving SUVs, Lexus, BMWs, etc. The problem is if you spend the majority of your day driving the hell hole freeways in the Bay Area and LA, you develop aggressive driving behaviors just to survive. If you drive the speed limit and don't take advantage of opportunities as they are presented, you'll find someone else will at your expense. Personally, I crank the stereo and cruise, but I understand how easy it is to become an asshole and continue to operate in asshole mode even when you're out of the congested areas. It's too easy to become an offensive driver here.

The reason you normally avoid using your turn signal is if you use it on the freeway, and the guy in the next lane sees it, he's more likely to speed up and not let you in. So the trick is to just butt in before he has a chance to try to keep you out of his lane. This was SOP in LA for all the years I lived there. It's all part of our offensive driving behavior. It's lame, I know, but people here are assholes.

Man, you know as much as I do that the homos are mostly limited to SF. Last I heard there are more homos in North Hollywood than all of SF.

A lot of the East Bay is crusty, but Oakland is not so bad if you stick to the areas near College Ave, Rockridge, Piedmont, Montclair, Jack London Square, Chinatown, even downtown. It's East Oakland that sucks. Hagenburger near the airport, East 14th, etc. But no one visits those areas anyway.

Also Alameda is cool. I was there Sunday at the old airbase checking out the USS Hornet. My wife's father served on it and was there when they picked up Neil Armstrong. There are some nice little beaches there, the marina, and a little south is Harbor Bay Isle with all the yuppies and also a few nice beaches.

Marin is cool for sightseeing, but there are a hell of a lot of elitist liberals and nut cases up there. Freak city. Napa is better.

I lived at the Airport Holiday Inn on Hegenberger for two months. Theres a Jack in the Box right on the corner across from the hotel that has a small memorial for an ex-employee that was shot and killed by someone who just walked up to the drive-through and blew him away. Whenever I used the drive-through I had to run a gauntlet of bums asking for change before I got to the window. There is also a super market around the corner with armed guards at all the exits. Scary place.

I also lived in Downtown SF for 6 months in SOMA(South of Market Ave), right in the middle of the leather fag area. Had to drive through that crap everyday to get to work. Imagine Billy Gibens(ZZTop) with a leather cap, tight blue jeans, leather chaps, and fruity as Liberace. Saw it every day. Glad to be gone.

FPC_anon, you are entirely correct, in America you are free to do as you will with your$$. I'm saying that sending your money elsewhere bleeds the system dry. Let's take Pedro for example. Pedro leaves the dirt farm of his homeland to seek work in theU.S. Pedro enters the U.S. illegally, and cannot find work through normal channels. Pedro takes a job for low wages( way more than he could have earned at home) and finds aplace to live. He meets Maria, and before long, Maria is pregnant( birth control is a sin, ya know.) Now because Pedro and Maria have not got legitimate employment, they are eligible for financial help from the state. Fantastic. All the while, Pedro has been sending a portion of his check back home to the dirt farm.
I have seen this in action. I lived with a mixed white/hispanic family for a year. The mother was a translator for the state and I got to learn all about the "plight" of your average illegal.
I appololgize if I seem racist, I really don't dislike these people for their race. My problem with them is cultural.

Really didn't want to get into this, but you gotta call a spade a spade.  Dude you ARE a racist.  Your whole premise of disliking CA was because you saw more non-whites than you would have liked, then you go off and say
but considering the tremendous immigrant population, I think it would require carpet bombing ala the Battle of Britain( ya can't nuke it cuz you'd lose the use of some great agricultural areas).

Maybe we should force all non-white people wear a badge or something that says "I speak English" or "I don't send money to my ancestral country", would that make you feel better[;D]

Maybe I am a racist. Life isn't always black and white, and we all get colored by our experiences. For those of you fortunate enough in life to not develope any prejudices, good for you. I don't consider myself particularly prejudiced, sometimes my beliefs don't square up with the facts, and goddamn , I find I'm human. I can accept my faults. There are plenty of other things I disliked about SoCal, as well as plenty of things I did like. I was just particularly perturbed by the lack of English everywhere I went. I appologize, my political incorrectness is showing.

Cali is a lost cause west of the fault line. My opinion of course.

Personally, I like being able to eat in a Mexican restaurant where I am the only one that speaks English.  I have lived in the PRK most of my life, and was born here.  Outside of a few high density areas the people are more friendly and  conservative.  Bay area traffic is a b*tch, people drive crazy and jump the queue.  I cannot afford to live near the office, so have to commute a ways.  If you get outside of SF to the valley, there is plenty of beautiful scenery.  Except for the bad laws, smog, high prices, and taxes, it is a great place to live.

If you are looking for homosexuals in the city, just head over to the Castro district on a friday night, or if you are traveling on the highway, park at a few of the rest stops.  Just kidding.
