I posted this info on this wierd rifle on the AK site here on AR15.com. Check out the info, and say what you think it is. Has anyone ever heard or seen one before?

It's probably as simple as your explanation.  A rifle made for the Nigerian commies under contract by the Chinese.  It was probably only made for the Nigerians.

I've heard of 5.56mm AKs.  The SAR-1 and 2 have that selection I believe.  Could be a military version of one of those?

The SAR-1 is a 7.62 x 39mm, SAR-2 is a 5.45mm x 39mm, SAR-3 is 5.56 x 45mm. The 5.56 AK's have been around a while. Valmets, Galils, the Norinco imports before the ban, arguably FNC's, Baretta AR/SC 70/90's, ect... .

OT a little, the original Armalite AR10 Nigerian models are one of the best and more desirable of the originals.

On Auto, the trigger slap was horrid, and I wish I had some gloves on! A useless rifle with that slap! I have fired heaps of AKs of all types over the yrs. Instructed on 'em etc! But that ChiCom in 5.56 was the worst ever. wish I took a pic of it now.
