Depends on what you want, and what you intend to use it for.

Good full size models:

CZ97B just under $500.00.

HK USP about 650.00.

Sig P220 just under $600.00.

Glock 21 about $500.00.

Springfield Loaded 1911 around $550.00-$600.00.

Kimbers a little bit more.

If money is no object, HK USP Expert, about 1,200.00 last time I checked.

Or a Valtro 1911, approximately $1,100.00.

Or one of the higher end Kimbers.

Too many choices.

Now you're probably just as confused about your next purchase as I am about mine.

I gotta side with the people who say get them all.  Keep in mind, this isn't just a matter of functionality, it's a matter of fashion.  There are some social events that are too formal for the pure utilitarian look and appeal of a Sig. [:)]

Ok I should have said this to start with sorry.
What I need is a service weapon, I will be a cop soon.

I have had most of this guns and thats what makes it so tuff, most of them are great guns.

The reason it's so tuff for me is that they won't let me use a 1911 if it does not have hight cap mags.
It so happens that I have grown to think very lil. of a gun that is not a 1911 or at least like with H&K heavily influenced by 1911s.

So the one of each thing will not work , sounds good :) but no.

[#9]
So you're saying that you have a choice of duty weapon?

No restrictions other than the requirement for high cap?

HK USP or Expert.

Or one of the double stack 1911s.

I am in the middle of trying to make this decision for myself. What I have decided is that the Browning HP is the pistol best suited for me.
It fits comfortably and that is the most important aspect of gun handling. If the shoe fits wear it.
It is reliable and will stand most abuse.
I have considered other handguns but if I have to adjust it in my hand when I pick it up it is not made for me.
The 1911 and the HP were originally designed by one of the great minds in the industry. They work over 70 years later.

If I was going to be a cop in Florida I would prefer a Desert Eagle in 44 Magnum.

Get a 15 year old Llama - I think they're going pretty cheap these days.  Watch your baa-aa-aa-aack.

High cap 1911 ???

Para Ordnance 14-45 LDA

Buddy of mine has one and loves it...
I've shot it a few times, and the grip is a bit big for me...
But otherwise it's a real nice shooting gun...
The single stack 1911's fit my hand a little better...

Well I'm the anti-Glock I have had a 26,33,30 and a 17 and I just don't get it.
At the same time as I had the 30 I had a Colt 1991A1 and the Glock just fells like a toy next to the Colt.

Now the Guy with the pic of the P-14 .45 may just be on to some thing.

What do you think about the P-10 for the weekend (if I can get one) :(
And can you still get the 12 rd. mags for that one?

O- the AR pistol LOL I would only do that if I could get one for my other hand too.

I couldn't make up my mind either so I have more than one on your list, here is my rating of each and links to some of them.

HK USP .45 - It is big, shoots great, reliable as hell, accurate, and did I say big?

Glock Model 30- www.glock.com/g30.htm
For some reason this is one of my most accurate pistols.  If you like Glock pistols you can't go wrong with this one, or the Model 21 full sized version, or the Model 36 single stack.

Colt - I don't own one, so somebody else can do this one.

Beretta - I don't own this one either.

Sig - Accurate, reliable, probably more expensive than average, magazines expensive, but a good gun.

Kimber www.kimberamerica.com- I own a stainless Gold Match .45 pistol.  It functions well, shoots great, its big, wouldn't carry it, but I use it to train with because it is accurate. It shoots very accurately.

There are many more, I even own a pre-deal S&W Pro Shop Tactical .45, but  I am not that impressed with the gun.  Even from the Pro shop the gun has tool marks all over it whereas the Kimber guns I have seen are always polished out. Les Baer, Nowlin, Springfield, and many many more brands are available.

Just pick one you like that everybody doesn't have bad things to say about it and go for it.
Good luck.

What you haven't mentioned is your hand size. There are those double stacked weapons that are difficult to present and use in a high pressure situation for someone that can't get the grip correct as the weapon leaves the holster. Try them all,but put them in a duty type holster, and see how they feel when you bring them out. You can't go wrong with the weapons that have been mentioned, but if it is for duty, then pick one out as if your life depended on it.

I don't have a tuff time with my hand size I can use just about ever gun I find.

I'm just very picky and will have to live with this gun EVERY DAY so I need to get it right.

Is that Sig uo put up slim or what?
If the gun is to slim I can't hold on to it, same as if it's to fat.
I have not found one to fat yet but there mush be one out there.

I just so love 1911s, I know them so well and that realy make you fell better to totaly know your gun inside and out.

If I buy some other that a 1911 it will have to be one hell of a gun.

Colt Python..Royal Blue with an 8 inch barrel..very cool..very smooth...a very slick .357 Magnum.

Ruger Bisley Converted to 475 or 500 Linebaugh..by John Linebaugh himself. You will have the Worlds Most Powerful Handgun..somthing to make Dirty Harry or Elmer Keith..green with Envy.

Ruger Vacquero: stainless steel, ivory grips in 45 Colt.  Cheap, Built like a Tank, Very Cool.

Ruger SP101: A small 5 shot .357 Magnum..makes a nice carry gun.

Keltec P32: For those HOT Summer days when all you can wear are a T-Shirt, Shorts and Sandals..(and still carry..the worlds lightest, thinest, LOCKED BREECH, 32 ACP deep cover gun..in your pocket.) Thing is so light you forget that it is there..

Sig P220: Cause it is Very Reliable, Accurate, has great ergonomics, and it is in 45 ACP.

A 1911 built by Les Baer (or a customized Springfield Armory ) and chambered in 45 Super. Yes..45 Super..Why 45 Super ? Cause you can still shoot 45 ACP as well. 45 Super is hotter ballistically than 45 ACP.

It looks to me like a2car's mind is already made up. You keep saying you love the 1911. So now you just have to decide which 1911. I would suggest at least going to gun shops or a gun show and handeling the kinber, springfield, and the para ord. It is my understanding that they all make a hi-cap 45. I personally like the para ord from handeling them. If you can shoot one, try a 14-45 stainless Limited not the LDA. LDA sucks!!!!
