Well, how would I get there.... I have about $1200 to my name right now, and want to see someone for a few days... more than anything in the world...

I don't care how long it takes, I wouldn't mind working as crew on a boat... how can I get there on the cheap?

Spend $10 to call a poor son of a bitch in Cuba and ask him/her how to make one of those rafts out of old tires, beer cans, and twine. Then go to your local dump and pick up the needed items, build yourself a sea worthy boat, hitch hike to the shore line, steal some food, and start paddling.

p.s. you might want to take a handgun with because when you are starving to death a hundred miles out it would be better just to die.

Do you have a good backstroke? Quantas had a deal to Sydney a while back for $800-900 USD. I would call them and ask. Its a nontourist time of year so the prices might be cheaper. Good luck.

And think about this, I'm sure that you guys got less than half maybe as little as 1/10th of the available empties that day. 120,000 people sure can leave a lot of money laying on the ground can't they? If everyone at the game leaves one can behind that's $12,000 just waiting there. Of course there are a bunch of people doing the collecting.

Check the cargo shipping firms. You might have to do some e-mails to some Japanese firms. I understand that they do allow passengers at times.

Heck Micheal Palin did it in the series "Around the world in 80 days".

It can be cheap, but you pay for it... it takes forever. But look at it as an adventure!

The cargo thing is interesting. Get a fridge box and cut some air holes into it. Seal yourself with some water, food, warm clothing, a blanket and pillow, a sealable can for waste, and maybe a CD player with extra batteries. Did I forget any essentials guys? Have your buddy take you to UPS/FEDEX or any of the airlines that handle cargo.

2.when the coast guard picks you up use your best fake Aussie accent and convince them you have just illegaly arrived in U.S. waters.
3.After a few days in detention, you will be sent "home"

Book a trip aboard a freighter. They are cheap and not as slow as some people thinks. Several friends and I went to Sweden aboard one during the summer break in 1984. It took 20 days to get there from NY and cost about $230 one way. Return trip was only 18 days and cost less than $200. I think they also had a trip to Hong Kong from San Francisco for about same cost. These freighters charged by days of voyage and not distance.

If you are fair dinkum, you'll need a travel visa with your passport. Its 15hrs direct from LA or 9hrs from Hawaii.

Its winter, so not much happening at the beach.

Big Macs are $A2.85, beer $A22.00/24 bottles, and your $US1.00 buys about $A1.96! Pizza Hut large pizzas are $A7.45ea. Thats $US 3.75 or so!

Its cheap for you Yanks to come here! Go for it.

If you are active Military, or I believe even active Reserve, you could take a MAC flight. Those ran $25.00 when I was in, they probably went up some. Of course, there is no guarantee of availability for a return seat!

I was giving it some thought also.
A final destination wasn't my goal, rather a long, laid back pleasant trip at sea with few(annoying) people and without craziness of a cruise ship.
If you're looking for Many, Many days @ sea with little layover, then this is it.
Depending upon the cargo as little as 12hrs not usually longer than 3 days in any port.
