I just read this at http://www.waff.com/Global/story.asp?S=401213&nav=0hBE It seems to indicate that 28 states got together and signed a bill granting reciprocity on CCW licenses. At http://www.waff.com/Global/story.asp?S=403018&nav=0hBB2f2H Ray there is this list
Alabama Alaska Arizona Arkansas Connecticut (Limited) Florida Georgia Idaho Indiana Kentucky Louisiana Massachusetts Michigan Mississippi Montana New Hampshire North Dakota Oklahoma Oregon (Limited) Pennsylvania Rhode Island South Carolina Tennessee Texas Utah Vermont (No license required) Virginia West Virginia Wyoming

Has anyone heard anything official on this. This is a TV station saying all this, but they could be wrong. This is too good to be true. Kind of sucks with all the different states I have gotten carry licenses in, but this is still great if it is true.
Link Posted: 7/19/2001 6:49:00 PM EDT
It's a major step forward if it is true.
Link Posted: 7/19/2001 6:52:03 PM EDT
Can't confirm, but the last I heard Arkansas was'nt too keen on Louisiana's CCW, was'nt stringent enough for them I guess. I hope this is true though. Now if we could get MO added to the list, we'd be going places!
Link Posted: 7/19/2001 6:54:57 PM EDT
You notice that NY, NJ, and Kali aren't on there. Gee, what a surprise.
Link Posted: 7/19/2001 7:00:37 PM EDT
I doubt you'll ever see those hotbeds of socialism added to the list.
Link Posted: 7/19/2001 7:03:40 PM EDT
North carolina sucks. They won't honor any other states CCW. grrrrrrrr[:(!]
Link Posted: 7/19/2001 7:05:49 PM EDT
No NV either.

I guess I expected better from NC, them being a Southern state.

You are right about NY,NJ,Kali and any other place of the same. But you can get a non resident Florida and to this day it is confirmed to be good in 17 states and for the non resident it is good for 15 states. So Florida is on that list and if this is true it might be good for 28 states. Don't trust the report verify everything. Good luck.

Can a CCW be gotten out of state? I mean getting one from the states on the list and it being honored in the other 27 states. Right now I just have an NC CCW. It is very inconvieient since I live only 15 minutes from SC.

Nevada passed a law this year that would allow anyone from out of state to obtain a non-resident CCW here. Better than nothing, and all you Kalis could come here and get one.

This may change some of the non-res licenses as they won't be needed as much. However, your best bet, being in NC, is to get a Florida License. Go to www.packing.org, click on Florida, and it will give you the info to get a Florida license. I did, they are very easy to work with. I am glad that S.C. is on the list. I live right across the river from there and have always had to stash my pistol when I cross over to S.C.

Like I said, I read the report, but doubt it's accuracy. Again, this would be too good to be true. Maybe TX is going to update the website until closer to the Sept 1 date, if this is true.

I meant to call the Georgia AG's office today and ask them about it. However, I am getting old and senile, so I forgot.

You can get a FL CCW, but as to reciprocity being granted by the other states on the list, I do not know. This is what FL has to say about non-resident CCWs from other states and reciprocity. Florida law will honor ONLY those out of state licenses issued to a non-resident by his or her state of residence. EXAMPLE: If a resident of New York possesses a license issued in New Hampshire, that resident cannot carry a concealed weapon/firearm in Florida, (unless, of course, he possesses or obtains a Florida license.) licgweb.dos.state.fl.us/news/concealed_carry.html MA being on that list REALLY surprises me, makes me doubt it. Alabama being on there is great. They currently do not accept FL CCW, which sucks, them being neighbors and all.

What's a kicker about here is that many states accept FL non-res permits, but FL doesn't accept anyone's non-res permits except, of course, their own.

Anybody got a confirmation on this yet? Floridas kinda weird, it took forever to get reciprocity between FL and AR.

I orginally called them on Monday and they said they were going to research it. I gave them the web address and all that. I just got off the phone with them and they say they are still digging in. It almost sounds encouraging, since they did not refect it out of hand.

What ever happened t the "full Faith and Credit" of these United States? We shouldn't need laws like this.

You may be right, but at least this is a start. You're just depressed because NY is not on the list.

and then there's the rest of the story! Folks, this doesn't mean poop, unless you're in Alabama or one of the states that extends reciprocity to everyone else's CCP's (eg. Kentucky). All it means is that Alabama is now allowedto enter into agreements with all of those states to request reciprocity. Previously they did not extend any offer of reciprocity to anyone. Any of those states that want reciprocity with Alabama can have it. That agreement does not mean that all of those states will have reciprocity with Alabama. An example would be my home state of Virginia. It's on the list, but it will not allow AL licensees to carry in Virginia, because by our law, to get reciprocity, your state has to have requirements as stringent as ours. Alabama has almost no requirements for CC, so they will not get reciprocity In summary, unless your state allows Alabama residents to carry in your state, you will not be able to carry in Alabama. This article is somewhat misleading, but when you read the actual law that was written up, you'll see the light. Anyway, check the actual law, and you'll see what I mean. Meanwhile, keep pushing for additional concealed carry!!!

Seeing South Carolina on that list really makes me wish that we were a shall issue state. Well, SC is a shall issue state by law, but the state police (SLED) intentionally doesn't issue permits. I've been waiting on mine since April. They won't even honor me with a denial, so I have something to appeal. They just take (steal) the $50, and never do their legally required job. They won't take the payment as a check or credit. I guess that's there's no paper trail for the money. Out of a group of people I took a CCW class with, 9 of us traded e-mail addresses. So, far only one of us has been granted a permit. The one guy only got a permit, because he worked for the coroner's office in Columbia. At least the CCW instructor was honest. He gave us a chance before the class started to get our deposit back after he admitted that the we probably wouldn't be able to get the permit. Because I don't know any judges, politicians, high-level LEO's, etc., it doesn't look like I will ever be granted a permit.

Well, after talking to Alabama and Georgia AG's offices, this story of a 28 state pact is not true. Go to this address to find out who Alabama has reciprocity with: http://www.ago.state.al.us/ag_items.cfm?Issue=64 Currently it is: FL, ID, KY, MI, MS, and ND.

Article IV, united States Constitution: Section 1. Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State.... I carry in NV, CA or where ever I go. I get caught, oh well. Take my ass to jail. If my driver's license is valid and my marriage license is valid, then my CCW is too. D.
