Just got back from the shortest interview in my life. 15mins with HR manager and then 10mins with Dept head and dept manager. They gave an overview of the position. They asked me the usual question:
Why do you wanna work here
What do you bring to the table(I was gonna check out my veggie post LOL)
How do you work in a hi stress environment
Where do you see your career headed
How do you manage people etc......

I had maybe 5 to 6 questions they asked me then " thank you for making a trip well will possibly call you mid next week and let you know. Then out the door I went. Waited 1 1/2 at the airport for my flight back.

See its fv
Damn!!! Back to square one I guess. To temping I go back. I didn't wanna move to OH anyways.

These 2 points are the ones I miss the most.

SWEEP: I will be sending a thank you letter as a courtesy. Let them know I am interested. The job itself is awesome, but OH really is not the top of my list of places. But I can make do for 2-3yrs if need be.

Get on the net and start searching for jobs in Nevada. We have a great, diverse economy. Our wages are lower, but our cost of living is WAY lower. We got chicks (legal prostitutes, too, if you're still desparate) liberal CCW, class3, no state income tax, 24 hour alcohol service, lots of places to shoot, and extremely cool folks, like your humble author. We need more Californians with guns. Not the damn goatee heads!

The longest interview in my life was last year.

I go in for an interview at Fed Ex, and the manager interviewing me was a friend of mine from junior high school who I used to play D&D and other RPG's with.  I hadn't seen him in years, it was quite a surprise.

We just caught up and reminisced for an hour, then gave me a tour of the place and where I'd be working.

I had one earlier this year at Ohio State University, I think I may have blown it when I said my hobby was collecting guns.

Do I remember seeing you came to Ohio for the interview?

Anyhow wish you luck, hope you get the job.

True, but LT still has a Texas ID. He should buy as much stuff as he can. Then move back.

Don't ask, don't tell.

Or store it out of state.

You get the picture.

When you know the interview is winding down, you ask "Is there any reason that would prevent me from working here" If they say no, you imeadiatly respond with "Great, when do I start"
If they start back pedaling or say yes, it only means they need more information to make a decision.  This is your opportunity to flush out any issues they may have, make them feel all warm and fuzzy and sell yourself.  Never leave the interview without asking for the position.

Yup, actually theres a few firms in Austin, San Antonio and Houston. Still trying to look around here in TX. Only 2 other states I would want to live in AZ and FL. FL cause of the beaches, and if nothings changed in the past 14yrs since I've been there, I recall the women are nice and the state is beautiful. AZ cause it a hop and skip away from CA, but its not CA.

LT,
We are in different fields but, I have to sell myself constantly.
There are times when I must have "don't hire this jerk" printed on my forehead.
If I try too hard to sell myself it normally works against me.
When I am relaxed, confident and portray who I really am (which is far from perfect), I get the best contracts.
Don't you just hate it when it's hard to shake a bad hair cut :)?
Good luck man.

Did you mention the whorehouses?  Anyway, Sure Nevada is great and if all else is bust go work at a casino restaurant.  Make about 300+ a night during special conventions.

Wanna hear about my shortest interview? Alrighty then...
Was thinking becoming a firefighter and took that big test they give where all the bay area deps get together. Didn't miss very many Q's-scored near top. Took a physical with city of Vallejo. Went for Oral Boards. Now, consider that I scored well on everything and was prepped for the boards by some friends who were pro's i.e. GAVE oral's in other agencies. My interview was scheduled for 9:00 AM. I arrived 20 min early-was out by 9. Interview lasted less than 15 minutes. Every other question-I kid you not-was a variation of "If one of your coworkers told a racial joke how would you handle it"?
Then come to find out, a friend of a friend was one of those giving the orals and passed on the tidbit that the sole purpose of that round was to wash out as many white guys as possible. Seems that the administration wanted to hire with a certain "lack" of diversity to reflect the good people of that city. But since the desired catagories scored so poorly on the tests and so few qualified, they had to try and even things out a little. Then I hear from other firefighters about certain hirees that are dumb and non-agressive enough to stand in front of a doorway and get backdrafted... that's crispy crittered for those of you in Rio Linda.

When a veteran tells you he wouldn't go into it the way it is these days...

Alright, my grapes are sour. I'll start another thread.

shortest Interview?...Usually mean that one look at you and they said "NOPE, Not this one". I agree with LT, the look and the presentation is very important during interview. More so than the skill and the qualification. They have to work side by side with you, deal with you 5 days a week or may be more, so they want someone who can fit into their image. You know "a family environment work place" type.  That's why we all look our best for the occasion and sell ourself.

I have been there and done that. Now as a manager myself, I do see why.

LT, my Corporation is in a biding war for a huge contract in the Virginia area.  If we win (I think we will), we will do lots of hiring. We are in technical field, and we do work also in Finance and accounting area. If you are interested, send me your resume to [email protected]

Hope I can help.

Even being a minority I hate "affirmative action" I think its BS. I've worked in jobs where I've wondered how someone got hired for the job, and I've been hired for jobs where I've wondered why I was hired. Especially in a job such as firefighting and LEO.

Ohio is one of the places where I might wind up after leaving KA, but it's a ways down my list of places I'd want to live (too cold and politically liberal).

Hang in there and keep swinging!

Better luck next time.

I am not saying that we are hiring just for the good look, but that it "also" plays a major part in hiring. Of course the best qualified person always get the job.  What happens if we have more than one best qualified person? Now, Would you hire the best "good looking" best qualified person?
