Kofi Annan Gets Civil Liberties Infringement Prize (CLIP)
WASHINGTON, July 17 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The gun lobby today awarded UN Secretary General Kofi
Annan the Civil Liberties Infringement Prize (CLIP), John Michael Snyder, Public Affairs Director of the Citizens
Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA), announced here this evening.
Snyder, named Dean of gun lobbyists by national media, said Annan deserves the mock award "because he uses
his international position at the United Nations as a platform from which to undermine the traditional, individual
Second Amendment civil right of law-abiding American citizens to keep and bear arms."
By working to undermine the right to keep and bear arms, Snyder added, "gun-grabbing Kofi and his
hoplophobic henchmen in effect oppose the right of people to protect their lives and the lives of their loved ones.
They constitute an international menace to the right to life itself. Truly, they are a disgrace to the international
community. Their activity at UN Headquarters in New York City constitutes an insult to the United States of
America. This is especially true in view of the fact that the UN recently kicked American delegates off the
so-called UN Human Rights Commission in favor of representatives from dictatorships in China, Cuba, Libya
and the Sudan."
Snyder said also that, "we welcome the statement last week by U.S. Undersecretary of State John R. Bolton at
the UN opposing the activities of the UN civilian disarmament lobby and vowing that our government would
oppose the proposed UN arms control agreement as long as it 'infringed on the right of Americans to bear arms.'
Our government must maintain this position. It must not cooperate with UN gun grabbers.
"We applaud, too, yesterday's statement by Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia, a CCRKBA Legislator of the Year
Awardee, condemning the proposed UN gun-grabbing 'Program of Action.'
"We'd go one step beyond that, however, and advocate that the U.S. Congress suspend all contributions from
U.S. taxpayers to the UN unless and until Kofi and his gang get off their anti-gun, anti-American high horses."
Snyder also is Vice President -- Washington Liaison of the National Association of Chiefs of Police, Treasurer
of the Second Amendment Foundation and National Vice President for Public Relations of the American
Federation of Police and Concerned Citizens.
