I have a fairly new Rem. 870 HD that I want to put a Meprolight or other tritium bead on.

I thought the freakin bead on this 870 could be taken off but I think I just realized that it can be "twisted" off cause that is exactly what it just did!  Looks like Remington never intended this to be removed.

Surely someone out there has replaced that front bead on the HD with a good quality night one.

Meprolight shows a Mod # ML34045 w/ 6/48 threads.  I guess I could drill out the old bead post and tap it for 6/48.

Any suggestions on this guys?

Be sure to use a Dremel tool to eliminate the part that sticks into the bbl. as it will cause the new sight to go into orbit with the first shot if allowed to remain.

Not necessarily.  I have a NEF .410 snake charmer and the bead post was sticking through into the barrel.  I fired a slug through for the first shot.  The post wasn't sticking through into the barrel anymore and the sight is still there countless rounds later.  Maybe a 12ga. would act a little different, I'm not sure.

I thought about doing that.  But curiosity got the better of me.  I wanted to see what would happen.  If curiosity killed the cat, then I know how I'm gonna go; "Hey ya'll...watch this..."[grenade]

I'm actually a damm yankee!  I came to the south from NJ and stayed!!  The only problem with the south is that there are too many northerners!!  Now I'm thinking about moving out west to Wy, Id, Mt, Nv, Tx, etc... Not sure where or when exactly, but I graduate in Dec. and I'll move anywhere but north!!
