ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGAFR56XSOC.html Jul 5, 2001 U.N. Investigating Whether E-Mails From U.S. Gun Enthusiasts a Security Threat By Edith M. Lederer Associated Press Writer UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The United Nations is investigating whether irate letters and e-mails it has received from American gun enthusiasts protesting an upcoming conference on the illicit trade in small arms constitutes a security threat. The world body has received about 100 complaints from Americans who erroneously believe the conference seeks to infringe on their right to bear arms, U.N. Undersecretary-General for Disarmament Jayantha Dhanapala said Thursday. The gun-rights enthusiasts did not threaten physical harm to any U.N. official but their protests were strongly worded and were turned over to U.N. security experts, Dhanapala said. "What concerned me was that there was a widespread campaign," he said. "It's essentially a U.S.-based phenomenon." The letters and e-mails started arriving in recent weeks, some signed and some anonymous, alleging that the U.N. is attempting to take away guns from people, in conflict with the constitutional rights of U.S. citizens, Dhanapala told a news conference. "I did not get the impression that they have been orchestrated. They are differently worded, but clearly they all labor under the same misapprehension about the conference," he said. Dhanapala's office released a pamphlet called "Setting the Record Straight" to address the misconceptions they contained and explain what the conference hopes to achieve. "The focus of the conference is on illicit trade in small arms, not the legal trade, manufacture or ownership of weapons," the pamphlet stressed. "The U.N. conference will have no effect on the rights of civilians to legally own and bear arms." Delegates are expected to adopt a program of action, which is not legally binding, to curb and ultimately eliminate illegal trafficking in assault rifles and other small arms and light weapons that have become the weapons of choice in many internal conflicts around the world. About a dozen gun-rights groups, including the U.S. National Rifle Association, are among the 177 non-governmental organizations accredited to attend the two-week conference which begins Monday. Dhanapala said these groups will be able to attend all public meetings and will choose several representatives to make statements at one official conference session. U.N. conventional arms expert Joao Honwana, a top conference official, said it wasn't up to the U.N. Department for Disarmament Affairs to judge whether the e-mails and letters constituted a threat. "The objective of turning these e-mail and communications to the U.N. security was precisely to allow them to assess them from a perspective of threat to the organization of the conference and take whatever necessary measures they found appropriate, which is what they are doing," he said. "They analyze those communications, and I'm sure that they will contact with the appropriate institutions in this country and elsewhere to make sure that whatever is said in those e-mails does not represent a major threat to the organization of this conference," Honwana said. Sooo, the UN thinks I am a "security threat"?
Good. Because I am...[pissed] |

Small arms are the limbs hacked off of small children, in quaint places like Sierra Leone. Are machetes on their illicit weapons ban?
WTF, worried about 100 complaints, no rights for peaceful protest? |
|
"What concerned me was that there was a widespread campaign," he said. "It's
essentially a U.S.-based phenomenon." Like Chaingun said.... 100 posts and you get this? My tin foil hat has been tuned into big brother's wavelength for so long, I forgot about big daddy. I'm gonna have to get a dual mode beanie. And I thought I was paranoid. [8P] |

Sounds like they are just trying to drum up publicity for their little meeting. 100 e-mails, which, by their own admission, contained no threats. They can't stop any massacres in the real world, so they come up with this.

Wait! someone's knocking at my door!(guys with
dark suit's and black sunglasses hum who could it be). |

If the guns they are to destroy are civilian type small arms, then THEY are sending the message. And I will think and act accordingly. What do they expect?
|
|
And to think that our tax dollars go to help fund this "organization". How pathetic.

Sounds like they're looking for an excuse to crack some skulls. "he wrote me a nasty email, so I had to rain arty down on his home, I was scared!"
Either that or further demonize gunowners and make us look like unstable bad guys, but it's all for the good of the NWO! |

Yo, Kofi(we know you're watching), if you don't stop pissing me off, I'm gonna start confiscating cars with diplomatic plates in a month for not respectin the laws of our country.
Yeah, come on and get me. Oh, and my address: 357 West 35th Street New York, New York 10001 I've got hundreds of Glocks with high-capacity magazines, over a hundred homeboys to use them, and if you come knocking I can always call on a buncha guys a coupla blocks over with armored cars and assault weapons - complete with short barrels, silencers, flash supressors, folding stocks, high-cap magazines, and *gasp* even grenade launchers. *grin* And in case you didn't get it, click http://www.nydailynews.com/2001-07-04/news_and_views/opinion/a-117158.asp edited to fix the link. |

What disappoints me is that they have received only 100 Emails/letters. What have we all been doing sitting on our hands? I'll be the first to admit I'm guilty of not Emailing them myself. But it is something I intend to correct ASAP. Come on folks let's all get on their list of people that are security risk. Surely we can generate at least a 1000 from right here.
|
|
What do you want to bet that the people who sent those messages are now under surveillance? Their phones are probably tapped, and assault teams are preparing for raids (just in case). They are calling 100 messages a widespred campaign? If there had really been a campaign, they would have gotten thousands. I think this story is an attempt to intimidate gun owners and frighten them into keeping silent while their rights are being stripped away.

"The U.N. conference will have no effect on the rights of civilians to legally own and bear arms." View Quote There is no right of civilians to legally own and bear arms. There is only the right of individuals to keep and bear arms. "legally" just means they can squirm out and define legally in a manner in which for all intents and purposes, guns are banned. Kinda like the answer some Chinese official gave SAR(funny interview in the August issue) - yes we allow people to own guns with the proper permits...because some people need guns in their official duties as police and governement officials. Sugarcoated bullsh|t still tastes like sh|t. |

If the UN wants to try to F**k with American gun owners... that's their mistake. I'm to pissed to type more...

We have a little thing called "Freedom of speech", and another thing called "The Right to Keep and Bear Arms" . These rights belong to all people of the world, not just those in the US, given to us by our Creator. They cannot be taken away or infringed. "The U.N. conference will have no effect on the rights of civilians to legally own and bear arms." View Quote Oh yeah? Then what the hell was this from their website? At the outset, the recognition that a global landmine crisis existed was quick to take root and gain universal acceptance. This is not the case with light weapons, despite the speed with which it has become an international issue. On the contrary, there is a major confrontation looming between those who wish to control or ban light weapons and those who believe that irresponsible users are to blame, not the weapons themselves. The National Rifle Association of the United States and similar organizations are beginning to develop a global presence and are commissioning research to provide statistical evidence in an attempt to show that measures to restrict gun ownership have little or nothing to do with rising crime and homicide. Much is made at the moment of the need to combat entrenched gun cultures. The need to reverse fixed beliefs in the right, if not the duty, to bear arms is an enormous task. This is not just the case in ‘frontier’ states, such as the United States and South Africa. It is also the case in countries where the state is weak and the security forces find themselves unable to guarantee the safety and security of people and property. It was the westward expansion in the United States that forged the culture of gun ownership in areas where the state could not be effective because expansion had occurred so quickly. In Canada, however, the Mounted Police attempted to guarantee the security of individuals across the vast landmass, thereby giving a sense at least of law and order, which may explain why the gun culture in Canada is less entrenched than in the United States. Here's the link:www.unog.ch/UNIDIR/2-00-esmith.pdf You need AdobeAcrobat to read it. hey UN i got a final answer for ya, suck it |

The U.N. Undersecretary-General for Disarmament Jayantha Dhanapala has made a misstatement. I think his agenda is directly at odds with the ownership of arms by private citizens. Here is a quote from a press release
http://srch1.un.org/plweb-cgi/fastweb?state_id=994394528&view=unsearch&docrank=25&numhitsfound=153&query=%20Disarmament%20Dhanapala%20&&docid=1722&docdb=pr2000&dbname=web&starthit=25&sorting=BYRELEVANCE&operator=and&TemplateName=predoc.tmpl&setCookie=1 Two important United Nations tools for transparency and confidence- building in the field of conventional arms continued to show signs of stagnation and even regression in the face of the reluctance by many States to make use of them, he stated. An expert group had been examining ways to increase participation in the Register of Conventional Arms. Many countries had also not used the standardized reporting instrument for military expenditures. At this time of rising military budgets, it had become all the more important to have reliable information about the scope of that particular problem. The destruction of over 1,000 small arms in the “Flame de la Paix” in Agadez, Niger, along with the moratorium on the import, export or manufacture of light weapons announced two years ago by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), illustrated some of the progressive disarmament activities underway in West Africa. The Department of Disarmament Affairs, along with United Nations Development Programme, proposed to embark on a weapons-for-development programme for which the assistance of the donor community was urgently needed, he added. What the UN doesn't realize is that several elite battalions of mall ninjas have been preparing for Operation Bitchslap for the past six months. Let's just say one wouldn't want to be anywhere near the HQ on that fateful day, lest one hear the rousing battle cry, "ALL YOUR BLUE HELMETS ARE BELONG TO US!"

Humm, was looking around the UN site and found this. It was a press relese back in 1997. Below is a PORTION of the article....an intersting part.....
Here's the link: http://srch1.un.org/plweb-cgi/fastweb?state_id=994435578&view=unsearch&numhitsfound=7&query=national%20rifle%20association&&docid=1017&docdb=pr1997&dbname=web&sorting=BYRELEVANCE&operator=adj&TemplateName=predoc.tmpl&setCookie=1 ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL GRANTS CONSULTATIVE STATUS TO 134 NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS On the political issue, the Council had invited the Conference last year to give its views on new applications of non-governmental organizations or whether a non-governmental organization should continue to retain consultative status. For the first time, the Conference would use this invitation and address the case of the American National Rifle Association, which had been to the Roster last year, scandalizing many non-governmental organizations. The Conference now intended to change its rules of membership. Not only would consultative status with the Council now be required, but non- governmental organizations would also have to "accept the aims of the Conference". On the practical issue, the Conference approved the reinforcement of the United Nations staff which worked with non-governmental organizations. View Quote Now, if you read that exerpt I quoted, does it sound like the UN will only allow the NGO to take part if they AGREE with their agenda!!!! Granted, this was back in 1997....... Sounds like typical politics....... But then again, we (AR15.com-ers) don't like it when a 'libera', 'anti-gun' person strays here.... PS- if you visit any UN sites, make sure you clear your cache and cookies!!!!!!!! |

My letter says:
I was pissed when I read an article stating that the U.N. is planning yet another confrence on disarming the people of the world. In addition, furthe infuriating the issue were inflamatory remarks the U.N. made about America. This is damned good country and you blowhard bastard should get the hell out. You are not welcome in America, so take your confrence and hold it somewhere where your left-wing crybaby agenda would be accepted. Oh but you've already disarmed England, Australia, Japan, and Canada. You will not threaten America's sovergnty. America is a sovergn nation and gun ownership is a god given right. The U.N. is threatening our sovergnty. America's gun owners are prepared to take your worthless crybaby asses on and that is a promise. If the U.N. attempts to take the guns of myself or any other true blooded American, that will be your undoing. We will not stand for this garbage. The U.N. will pay if they try to disarm America. By the way you lying backstabbing dogs can not cloak your true agenda in lies and propaganda. You are not out to end the illegal arms trade, you are out to disarm America and the world, so that the only military will be your limp-wristed pansies in the blue helmets. The U.N. makes me sick. Go to hell bastards, Chris Carr I hope the U.N. gets the point. We need to flood their worthless asses and teach the U.N. a lesson they won't soon forget. |

This is what I sent. You think this might be a little over kill?
We have had enough of your anti gun retoric. We know you know that guns save more innocent lives then you would like people to think. And that the UN is a socialist orginization. You prefer the unarmed because it makes you feel safe and makes your rise to an absolute power possible. Following in the footsteps of this worlds great dictators...Adolf Hitler, Starlin the list goes on and on. Needless to say we know this crap you are trying to sell us and we don't want it. |

Take note of the words they use in this statement:
"The focus of the conference is on illicit trade in small arms, not the legal trade, manufacture or ownership of weapons," View Quote It says focus, just like Feinsteins "focus" for banning firearms, background checks, licensing, and registration, is to reduce crime. It's only a side affect that gun owners lose their rights. I bet you didn't know Feinstein supports your right to own hunting firearms. She does, but according to her definition of a hunting firearm and only after you jump through all the addition hoops she puts in place. We need to start calling the anti-gun people for what they are really saying, not for what people think they heard. All people hear is Feinstein saying she supports your right to own hunting firearms, and they think they won't have any additional restrictions or anything else to worry about. The UN is doing the same thing. |

(First post in 9 months)
The pamphlet mentions they're only meeting to discuss the "ILLEGAL" trade in small arms. LOL... That leaves two possibilites.. #1) Whose definition of "illegal" are they using? Austrailia's? #2) They're saying what they're going to do to all the LEGAL guns BEFORE they make them ILLEGAL. They're working backwards to cover their tracks. Even if they did ban guns, if there were no laws on what to do with the people with guns, the ban wouldn't make sense. THAT's what they're doing now. NRA4FR -Shawn |

What they have to worry about is the people that are not saying anything to them. Those are the true people they should be worried about. Why does the world have to go around and around back to the same bull shit? Look at history every time a civilization took freedom away from the people it crumbled into a waist land. We have minds of our own, we are not programable computers that do what every they say! There will always be free will in this country to do what we want. That is why we are not English!
