Sorry, this is sort of serious, but in reading the thread about whether guns are really necessary, I remembered this as written in the front of a book owned by my grandfather. It came from a veterans memorial ceremony in the early 1900's....
Hear the blood...no? It stains the ground yet where you stand.
It was the price paid by those gallant souls who when danger came
stood in spite of fear to drive the foe from the land.
And the blood, the blood, they spilt it here in dark forest and meadow,
to gain freedom for those they did not know. For God, for principle, for whatever right, they stood and gave this price.
Hear the blood?...it speaks to you. Look down on this green earth.
