yeah, its functional. ive used it a few times. i can especially see it useful in combat. mainly, when i try to sneak a round into the chamber with out letting the bolt slam forward. i think it was a genuinely useful addition to the design.

Absolutely, when I screwed up the lubrication (read none) it was very helpful/essential. Not just a pretty feature but a functional one.

I cant think of any other weapon type that even has a dedicated forward assist as such? Better to have and not need it. Never used mine.

I've used it with blanks, never with live ammo.

That's because most auto and semi-auto rifles have reciprocating bolt handles, which more or less function as a FA. The charging handle of the AR15 is non-reciprocating, so there's no way to apply forward pressure on it unless there's a seperate forward assist. -Troy |

Only once, when a round didn't properly chamber in all the way. I have since learned the error of my ways- if a round won't chamber all the way, rack it out and eject it.

Look at it this way -
The Air Force doesn't like the forward assist, but the Army and Marine Corps demand that their rifles have one. Now, who do [b]you[/b] think knows more about infantry rifles? [:P] |

The only time I had to use it was when I was breaking-in a match bolt and carrier. Lots of Break Free and about sixty rounds. Other than that, never used it.[sniper]
