I was lucky, the Mattel logo was almost the exact same size at the Colt.

Coincidence, maybe.

WOW!

I feel so embarassed after mocking all those fine servicemen who were telling the truth when they swore they had seen one!

Is the Mattel version any better than the one that Hesse makes?

Seriously, I used to test new toys for Mattel when I was a kid. I'd go in and they'd show me the new stuff that wasn't on the market yet, and I'd take stuff home and play with it until it broke, then bring it back.
It was a pretty righteous job to have as a 10-13 year old.[:D]

If they would have given me one of these, I would've been in heaven.

Ok guys, I fess up, the above was a fake promo, but I now have in
my possession a “real” Mattel M16A1.

I also understand that Budweiser and Tampax manufactured the M16.

It just happens I have an extremely rare, Tampax M4A1.

Righteous Kill, I like it a lot. When we first were issued the M16, every one thought that's who made them[:D]. At that time Matty Mattel was the mascot and about every 16 in the unit had either a Matty Mattel or Mattel sticker on it's receiver, also a small selection of the Greeny Stick 'um Caps stickers were on the magazines. I wonder what all the folks back home thought about the request to send those stickers was!

Any way thanks for bringing back some good memories and laughs .
