I was thinking about selling off some parts to purchase one as they can be reloaded to shoot "estes" model rockets. Cool factor is high. :) I need to know whether it is worth it... :)

My gun dealer had one hanging in his shop. He also had a ton of dewat Vickers, MG42's, MP40's etc. However when the ATF showed up to check his books they told him that LAW tubes are a "gray area" and that he should get rid of his. This was in the late 80's. Perhaps things have changed? Needless to say I wouldn't screw with them.

"gray area". Let them pass a law, until then, screw them. If the ATF had their way, everything would be a gray area. There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. When there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. -- Ayn Rand

I have a real nice one that I have inspected for the same reason. I believe it can be done. I have used a razor knife to cut the rubber boot off of the launch bar to get a look at the mechanism. I have tinkered with the idea of a percussion method of launching the rockets but have not done any mods yet. I would tend to go with a electrical system though. All in all though, I would say yeah, it can be done. JUST BE CAREFUL!! (and do it in a way that if you $uck up it wont ruin the appearance of the tube. BrenLover

Also, look around for one before you jump at the 1st one you find. Most people want an arm and a leg for them $90 and up. I got mine at a gunshow in Rochester NY for $25 LIKE NEW with end caps and sling. BrenLover

Just so we are on the same page. THe LAW tube is what actually shoots the law rocket. Not the case a rocket comes in...

their some law look alike tubes out there, used for airsoft. their is a guy that makes paintball cannons of them

M16Man, don't CUT anything. Just use a screw driver and pull it off. they are only glued on with silicon glue. There is NOTHING to see under that rubber trigger guard anyway!!!!! I ahve looked several time. The long thin metal thing in the rear is a long fireing pin. You cock the launcher take off the safety, and fire. The fireing pin hits the primer (behind the cap that is held on with 2 screws). I have done alot with mine and have come to the conclusion that a pistol primer is nice but NOT NEEDED!!!! I use plastic cap gun caps, they are cheeper and have just as much spark/fire. I have plans for a way to convert it to electric if anybody wants it just ask. THe ONLY flaw in the design, is there is no place to put the batteries and still be able to fold it up after use. BISHOP

I see them come up on Ebay alot. My friend electrified his using what is knows as an "Electric match" and a 9 volt battery. Get a short piece of cannon fuse, stick one end in the rocket motor and the other end you attatch it to the electric match. (You could also use an electric rocket igniter). then run the wires from the electric match to a small momentary swith hooked to the 9 volt battery. Just run the wires out the back of the tube. He taped the switch on top of the battery and held it in his hand where you could not see it. To make it look real, he pushed the electric button, then about 3 seconds later pushed the rubber firing button on the LAW and it looked like the real think, rocket took off.

Bishop, I used an xacto knife to gently cut around the boot so that it could be glued back on. Cant even tell I did it. I too, came to the conclusion that a percussion system was more complex than needed. If you can send me your plans to Rangerstx@hotmail.com, I would like to look at them. I had given thought to the model rocket igniters and electric matchs. I was going to test some larger watch batteries to see if they would do the trick as they would be very easy to hide. Thanks BrenLover

Serious question: Anybody know if you can legally own one of these in kalifornia? Wouldn't if be considered a grenade launcher?

LOL. The "suck". Haven't heard that one in a loooong time! I remember back in the early 80's you could get all you wanted for $20.00 each. I don't think those had the sub caliber inserts though. I recently saw one selling on Gun & knife forum for get this...$300.00. That was with the sub caliber insert and a few unfired practice rockets.
