Lots of great pics.Although the Warthog is my fav, the B-1B always gets me giddy because of its awesome speed, power and agility for a bomber and the fact it looks like a bird of prey.

F-14 Tomcat. The most beautiful and capable fighter ever. The F-18 "Superhornet" can't hold a candle to it.

P-39 King Cobra.  Never got a chance to prove itself.  The 37mm cannon kicks ass!

AKA, "the Iron Dog". P-39 is the AirCobra, or Airacobra.

The 37mm cannon had either a 9 or 18 round capacity, and was prone to jamming. The rounds were medium velocity, so they had a "droopy" trajectory.

It's performance above 10,000 feet dropped off sharply.

Most were sent to Russia, along with the P-63 KingCobra.

The Russians used them as fighters, often taking of armor and guns to make it more manueverable.

Since a lot of the fighting was at treetop level on the Russian front, the lack of performance at 10,000+ wasn't that big of a liability.

Ok, semi old school.  Bet your fancy jetfighters can't carry 40 cases of beer from Australia to Hawaii in one flight.

Germany just bought 8 of the Norwegian P-3s

By far, my favorite aircraft is the Boeing (formerly McDonnel-Douglas) F-15E Strike Eagle.  This and the A-10 had the highest Mission Capable Rates in the Pesian Gulf War (98%).  Undisputably, the most capable operational fighter platform in the USAF inventory.

Here are some photos of Strike Eagles of the squadron that I so desperately hope I get assigned to, the 90th Fighter Squadron of the 3rd Fighter Wing at Elmendorf AFB, AK.

Tacit Blue.. no idea why its my fav..

Because it grew up to be this?

Tacit Blue was the first aircraft to use the continuous curve theory for a low observable (stealth) aircraft. Technology which eventually led to the development of the B2 Stealth Bomber with a radar-cross section so small that the Air Force refuses to disclose it.

Tacit Blue is on display at the United States Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson A.F.B. in southern Ohio (Dayton,Ohio).
