Blood money

Soldiers vaccinated against anthrax have the opportunity to help future anthrax victims by donating their blood. Or they can do it for the $60 they’ll get in return.

The government plans to develop an experimental treatment for anthrax from the blood of people vaccinated against it. Such a medicine has never been tested on people, but scientists think it has a good chance of working based on animal tests.

In a Fort Campbell, Ky., gymnasium when troops were told they would get $60 for a liter of their blood plasma, many whooped and hollered. They can donate up to once a week.

Donating blood four times a month could add $240 to a specialist’s $1,550-a-month base salary.

Fort Campbell was selected as the first site because a high percentage of soldiers there have been vaccinated against anthrax.

A liter of blood plasma a week?
Isnt a normal donation a pint of whole blood, and then ~60 days until your next donation?

SWEEET.....but my question is .....does this apply to soldiers that have been vaccinated for it in the past....or ones that have been recently vaccinated...or does it matter?

Donating plasma is different, it recirculates your blood and take out the plasma but puts the rest of the blood into your body

Hell, when I was in, they just took it. We had a new "fast freeze" facility on post that was supposed to hold a major percentage of the Army's blood stocks. Guess who got to fill it up after it opened? Blood donations were mandatory and frequent, I think every 30 days or so. At first, they let us have the rest of the day off, but then they stopped even that stab at decency.

There's an add on the radio down here for people who have been vaccinated for smallpox and or HepB.
Says they can make up to 400 a month. I would imagine that would be if you were vaccinated for both.
Thats pretty good money in anyones book.

Hmmm..  the Army vaccinated me at least twice for every disease known to man. Maybe I can make some money off of this.

Anyone know if this is still in limited local trials, or who to contact for more info?

I wonder what kind of documentation they want to prove you've had the vaccinations.
