I was wondering what people on this forum use as their carry weapon (for those who are allowed). I go to the range once in a while with my dad and brother, and I've only shot a Glock 19. I love it, but I think I'd like to experiment with others and see what else I like. Suggestions?

I used to try to carry a small gun in the summer time, a small revolver or automatic. But now I find I can carry a full sized gun, even with shorts and a t-shirt if I use an inside the pants holster and no one can tell. So I'm packing a Glock 22 EVERYWHERE I go.

The trick to decent carry is a decent belt. When the belt supports the holster, you can conceal anything. 1911 "in the field" sometimes a K frame 38 "in the field" (open carry). Mod. 60 J-frame .357 or Makarov concealed. But it's just to cover my ass until I get to the shotgun, SKS, and/or AR in the truck.

I carry a Kahr P9 in a Kydex IWB holster.
Link Posted: 5/30/2001 10:47:59 PM EDT
I've got a Sig P245. I love the thing and can put a quarter over the grouping at about 10-15 yards. I've also got a H&K USP 9mm but it's been collecting dust ever since I got my hands on the Sig.

Spent many $$$ to find that I shoot and carry a Glock30 extremely well.I still have several great gun in arsenal(HK USP compact.45,ParaOrdnanceP13.45,Colt Python, and more) but the glock just fits me right and never lets me down.

I have Sigs and a HP. All are "large" but get it done.

Kimber Custom Classic in a Galco Royal Guard. Extra mag on the other side. Just purchased a Kimber Ultra CDP but am not carrying it yet.

Colt M1991A1SS usually in a pancake holster (until I can find a decent left-handed SOB rig that won't break me...) At 6'3" and 240#, I can make the 91 disappear just about anywhere convenient. And, once I throw on a light jacket or an open shirt, no-one is the wiser... The BIG trick to concealment is to get used to the weight and pull of the hardware. Most people that get busted off the street for CCW got nailed for adjusting their jock where they keep their .38... FFZ
Link Posted: 5/31/2001 12:14:03 AM EDT
Here in Illinois there is no such thing as a CCW. If there was (fingers crossed) and I had one, I'd be packing my Sig p220 in .45 auto.

Glock 36 in one of several IWB holsters. It's the perfect mix of big caliber in a small gun package. Accurate as hell, too. But you already have a black pistol, so I don't have to tell you that.

Kimber Pro Carry in a Milt Sparks Versa-Max II. FMCDH Semper Fidelis Jarhead out. ------------------ "[W]hen the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British Parliament was advised by an artful man, who was governor of Pennsylvania, to disarm the people; that it was the best and most effectual way to enslave them; but that they should not do it openly, but weaken them, and let them sink gradually.” --George Mason, Virginia's U.S. Constitution ratification convention, 1788

HK45compact-Then the full size 40-Then a 1911- I want a P12, they fit real well.
Link Posted: 5/31/2001 5:31:56 AM EDT
I carry the gun I shoot the most accurately with, the one that points the most naturally for me, a full size 1911. Your best bet is to find out which gun meets those requirements for you and make an effort to carry it, no matter what the size.

Sig 228 or a Sig 239 in a Galco Jak202 in winter and a fanny pack in summer. I know a fanny pack isn't really concealed but it does hide it from the sheep. Rusty

I carry a rabid weasel in a shoebox everywhere I go. When confronted by a would be assailant, I open the box and launch the little bastard at them!

If it was legal to carry in Ohio it would have to be the Kimber CDP....
Link Posted: 5/31/2001 5:55:33 AM EDT
Glock 19 in either a Galco Royal Guard IWB or the Galco Concealable pancake. Sometimes a Kimber Compact in same model holsters. These are two of the best holsters out there IMHO.

Les Baer TR Special or a Wilson Combat CQB in an IWB holster. Two spare mags in pancake mag pouch on my weak side and a Hawk Knives custom Shobu IWB in a kydex rig.

Astra A-100 loaded w/ 9 mm +P+ in a custom made Kydex IWB holster.(made it myself!) Thats the small one I carry. For other times its my Springfield Defender 1911 .45 in a Dillon CYA. Great rig for carrying a 1911. And yes, a good holster is needed, but the belt is extremely important. Been through a lot of belts. Thats the key component as to how well your rig works. Synweap223 out!

S&W 640, packed with 5 .357 magnum Federal Hydroshoks. This little pistol has a heavy recoil.

Glock Model 27 with night sights. North American Arms Guardian .32 (it fits in my vest pocket!)
Link Posted: 5/31/2001 7:45:46 AM EDT
I normally carry a Springfield TRP 1911 .45 in a Kramer IWB holster, my wife carries a Sig Pro 2340 in .40 in her purse, when in just shorts and tank top I carry a Colt Pony in 380 in a belly band rig. I'm thinking of getting a Glock 36 for shorts duty though as I'm not real confident of the .380 caliber for stopping power.

Glock 23NS with 3 hi-caps (pre-ban) for a total of 40 rounds of 180gr Federal Hydra-Shock. I don't always carry the spare magazines, though. If I can't solve the problem with the first 14 rounds, I probably do not have a handgun problem.... -Andy "Can you describe the suspect?" "Um, it was some guy in a hat...." Edited because I believe in both puncuality and punctuation.

If Missouri would let me, i'd carry my H&K .45 USP. I like big guns..... it needs to look as badass as it is. Shawn

Well, my preferred carry weapon would be a SAW, but due to concealed requirements it is most often a SIG P220, or SIG P229 .40S&W.

H&K USP45 in a Galco concealment holster on strong side hip. Have been thinking lately about a move to a USP45C.

Kahr K9 Elite 98 with AO nite sights and 2 extra mags on duty or off.
Link Posted: 5/31/2001 5:14:04 PM EDT
Glock 27 with Trijicon night sights in an inside the waste band holster. I have several other pistols including a Colt 1911 and a larger Glock, but I find that with a smaller pistol I am less prone to find an excuse to leave it home. I have also discovered that barrel length is not nearly as import to concealability as butt length.

Colt Special Combat Government Competition O1970CY 1911 in a Galco Combat Master. requires a little extra effort to conceal, but it feels reassuring on my hip. EBS

I carry a 96FS Beretta it has been an excellent autopistol. I have been working with a fullsize 1911 Springfield Armory and It is proving to be reliable, accurate and very quick. I live in a cool climate and I'm fairly tall so concealment is not problem. Have a nice evening, Rabon.

On duty I carry a Glock model 21, and I love it. It is the most comfortable fighting gun I have. Off duty I carry my second favorite gun, a Kimber Classic Custom, in a Galco concealment pancake holster. It is a smooth shooting little gun and I love it too. Also shoot IDPA with it. On SWAT duty I carry a Glock 17 to back up my MP5SD. Ronnie
