Iam thinking of getting a 243 for varmints /predators. How does this round stack up against the highspeed 22's?

Thanks

With 85gr. bullets moving out at approx. 3100 fps, it ought to do just fine.  I've seen a range of weights from 75gr to 90gr.  Seems pretty versatile.

The .22-250 Rem or .220 Swift are really hard to beat.  4000 fps!

i have an old 700 with a piece of crap bushnell banner 4x12 i bought off of a friend of mine who was reloading 100 grains for it that shot about 1.5 moa. i just started reloading nosler 55 grain ballistic tips and its unbelievable.it is a light barrel & even has some pitting inside & ive managed a few sub 5rd. 1/2" groups at 100 yds.

Do it. That rifle can do double duty as a varmint rifle & deer rifle. The 55gr ballistic tips as mentioned before are f*cking devastating. They will probably be moving at nearly 4000fps or better. 85gr Sierras will be awesome deer projectiles. 6mm really is a versatile caliber.

243 will be better in the wind than 22's unless they have a custom tight twist barrel to shoot heavy (higher BC) bullets. Seeing hits thru a high magnification scope might be a problem though, due to the 243's greater recoil.

The 22s will have slightly better trajectory, but the 243 bucks the wind much better.

Absolute flat shooter out to 300 yds...great varmint and whitetail round...recoil manageable for kids and ladies...imo..the best all arround cartridge out there.

.243 was my first Deer rifle when I was a pup. With 100 gr they are tough on deer. My dad still has a Win Mod 70 in .243 and with the 75 gr loads they make a bad day form Mr Viet Varmit. His shoots sub MOA and is a better choice for 300+ yards than my .223 Rem 700 VS
