Long time ago I had a 4" 686 which I traded for a 4" 66 which is the gun I first used when I became a Deputy. I quickly switched over to Glock (finest handgun in the world) and ended up selling the 66 to a jailer. I really wish I had kept the 66. A friend of mine has a little stainless 5 shot snubbie .38 S&W (dont know the model number) that I really would like to get from him. Doubt he will part with it though.

I own about 40 S&W revolvers (no pistols) but the newest one I have (model 38) was made in 1993 so I don't feel bad about it. I collect model 10/MP revolvers and have 35 of them but they are all pre 1970's.

When I shot my toris .38 I used to pretend it was a s&w airlite, but now I make believe it is a ruger sp101. I still do pretend my 10/22 is an AR15 though.

I have a few but would like to have a 625 and a 610 for my inventory. But not untill the English get out of the gun business.

I've got a Model 629, a Model 686, and a Model 66 that were purchased about 10 years ago. I won't buy a new S&W now, but I would still buy an older one. I'd like to find one of those 4" 686 police trade ins to use as a truck gun.

This old timer is just like you in respect to S&W. I love mine and would never consider selling them. However, like you I cannot consider buying any new ones. To do so would be a signal to other manufacturers it is OK to sell out to the Libs. I'm sorry for the plight of their employees. However, we all have a cross to bear sometime in our lives. Here is a thought, Taurus (many similar to S&W guns)has been constantly improving their products for some years now. Maybe they should consider scooping up some of the S&W employees. It sure couldn't hurt.

Have to agree.......smiths are the best, and i`ve had most!.....lot`s of good used ones still out there, if you`re uncomfortable with new for now....custom shop guns are WAY ahead of any body`s......[pistol]

I have a pre-sellout 38spl my father gave me for my sixteenth birthday in the mid seventies, I'll never sell this gun, nor will I ever buy another SW.

Seems to me that everyone who owns a S&W says it's pre-sellout, and while I may not agree with the way they got out of the Clinton firing line, I can't blame them...they are after all a business, and to put them out of business would would be more harmful to the industry than what the other manufactures might think if you buy a Smith. The anti-gunners would love to see S&W out of business, one less company to try and control.
What I hate more than any of this are the guys that scream blood and guts American... Be American, Buy American, then go out and buy a Russian or Chinese SKS.
Own a S&W 9mm, but my revolver is a Taurus M65 .357mag

I had a 6" 686 that I have had 15 Yrs sold it to buy a DSA STG 58 kit gun. I don't want anything to do with them now.

I currently have a half dozen S&W revolvers.

(2) 686's 6" barrels .357
(1) 17 6" barrel .22LR
(1) 48 6" barrel .22 mag
(1) Victory .38 S&W
(1) 28 Trooper 6" barrel .357

The 686's are a matched pair, reworked and smoothed out. The WW2 vintage Victory has been in the family for years. The Model 28 was given to me by a retired police officer. Before me recieving it, it was fired once a year for the past 17 years. The model 17 is fun and cheap to shoot. The model 48 will soon be for sale. If I am going to pay $7 a box to shoot .22 mag, I might as well just plink with .38 special.

My first Duty weapon M-66. And my current M-4516
We are required to carry either 4506 or 4516 since the city supplies the weapon. We've had them since 89. I'll buy them again when the limeys sell the company and they nix the sellout agreement

I've owned several over the years: K-38, Model 59, a Model 36, a 29 4" and I carried a 6" Model 57 on duty with the sheriff's department for years before they allowed us to transition to spattermatics. They have sadly all gone by the wayside to make room and cash for other guns. Sure wish I still had that 57 - that was one fine hawgleg!

HillBilly, I think the Taurus idea is great. They're a South American company originally, right? Girls are much friendlier, as a rule, down there. Making guns in Florida now I think. Whatever. Clime is much better than S & W's home base. Currently have 3 pre-sell-out Smiths

A Smith was my first handgun. I have been a Smith & Wesson head ever since. I have a Model 10, 13, 17,29, 34, 41,48,52, 57,58,63, 64,65, 66, 651,686, 696, 745, 1905, 6906 and a few antiques also.

I have only one.

A model 629 CLASSIC in 44 mag. It is a sweet shooting revolver, the best shooter of all my handguns.

I won it on the internet (Shooters.com) otherwise I would never own a S&W, to damn expensive. This model would have been $600. Could almost buy another AR for that price. Though not at this time in California.

It is a very sweet shooter. Praise to the artisens at S&W that built the gun. Otherwise I am partial to Rugers, good shooters at a reasonable price.

I still own a S&W M13 3" HB that I have had for YEARS. Dispite my feelings about S&W, I will probably never part with it.

I'd actually loke to find a nice used M65 3" HB as well.

Smith & Wesson is an Old Line Marque....they have fallen on very hard times. So destitute that they could be purchased by a Brit company...hard to believe that capitalism and companies still exist in Britain, but nevertheless, sold out by their new socialist owners. Ahhh, getting depressed thinking about it. But pick up one of the old ones, cycle the trigger, and you know that you have a quality firearm in your hand. Old Smiths never die, they just get better. If you have one, don't let it go just to be "in step" with the gun culture's disgust with the new ownership.

I don't own any S&W's but my dad has a bunch of them. He keeps a 629 bedside. Someday, I'll inherit some of them, and even though S&W sold out I would hang on to them. All are pre-sellout and some are customized. BTW, Colt is nearly as guilty as S&W, and Ruger has had his moments too. At least the other two are American owned though.

1. It has royal hong kong police stamped on it.
2. It looks brand new.

I have a few S&W's M-59, M-39, M-29 and all from the 1970's..

I like older handguns. Less PC features, all my Rugers SA's lack transfer bars etc..

Well, one thing about the old Smiths.
They will never be "smart" guns
No need to punch in a 35 digit code on the handle before it becomes "activated"
No need to worry if the battery on your chip died or got erased walking by a magnet and it won't recognize your fingerprint.
Sometimes, "dumb" is good.
Pick it up, point, and shoot.

Got an older model 19, 2 1/2" barrel, with some trigger work done. DadGum!! is it smooth! I like it, think I will keep it forever!!!!

Won't buy any more, though.

Any one that has a serious problem with owning a certain brand can send their unwanted toys to me at their expense. I'm not buying any new smiths right now...there's none on my want list. Are we still buying from "10 round Ruger"? In the OLD days I was one payday away from having enough money to buy a Colt Hbar when they made the announcement they would no longer sell to us common folk. Bought a PWA and have been happy; now PWA is out of business.

I really want to get a Pin and recessed squared butt 2.5" mod 66. I have a newer round but but I'm in CA and its not on the approved list and the discontinued model will never be on it again :(
