Forwarding: >Gainer Rumored to be on Short List for High ATF Post. > > >The ISRA has learned from reliable sources that former Illinois State >Police Director Terrance W. Gainer is being considered for an undis- >closed, yet high level position in the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco & >Firearms (ATF). > >Based on his past record, the ISRA finds Gainer to be totally unsuitable >for any policy making position within the ATF. The ISRA would consider >the appointment of Gainer to a top ATF post to be a grave threat to the >future of civilian firearm ownership in the United States. While Director >of the Illinois State Police, Gainer was openly hostile to law-abiding >Illinois firearm owners. In the mid-1990s, Gainer testified in favor of >a ban on private ownership of semiautomatic firearms. On the topic of >concealed carry, Gainer testified that, even if a CCW law passed in >Illinois, he'd refuse to issue any permits. As a puppet of the Daley >administration, Gainer was a dutiful cheerleader in Springfield for any >of Daley's gun-grab proposals. > >Talk of Gainer's selection is yet another indication that the ATF is >loading its upper ranks with antigun zealots. As reported earlier this >year by the ISRA, former ATF Chicago Division Director Kathleen Kiernan >had been promoted to a high level position in the ATF headquarters. >While heading up Chicago's ATF office, Kiernan also served as the chair >of a fund raising event held by the Illinois Council Against Handgun >Violence (ICHV). The ICHV is a Chicago-based group that has as its >mission the destruction of the shooting sports and the end of civilian >firearm ownership. > >Teaming Gainer with Kiernan would spell bad news for American gun owners. >One could certainly expect to see stepped up administrative efforts to >reduce the number of FFL holders in the nation and further restrictions >on the importation of firearms, parts, and ammunition would soon follow. > >The ISRA is urging all American gun owners to contact their US Senators >and Representatives and express opposition to Gainer's appointment. >Callers should also inquire as to why no investigation of Kiernan's >conflict of interest was taken up.

What is ISRA?? What are their views?? What is the background on Gainer?? Career LEO or some political hack that got to be a "director"?? If Gainer is a hack what else has he done (job wise).
