Don't force it, it will happen.
Our 3.5 yo went from total refusal to almost completely trained in just a few months. He now only wears a diaper to bed in case of accidents. What got the ball rolling was seeing me peeing outside. Then he all of a sudden wanted to pee outside too. The first few times he went all over his pants, whatever. Then he was on to wanting to go on the toilet, and so it began. We also outfitted our toilets with a seat that has a third flap. He refused to use the trainer seat but he immediately sat himself down on the "big boy seat" without a single fuss |

Shit. Both my sons were fully trained by 3.
A mix of shame and positive reenforcement worked. Also regular 1 hour mandatory poty brakes worked. Can't get off the pot untill there is a product. Shame also works very well. |

Op I toilet trained both of my kids within under a year old! I used the M&M trick.
Show them the candy and give them a couple. Then walk them to bathroom and let them see you put it in medicine cabinet. Say everytime you pee & poop in toilet you get some M&M's! My kids were sitting on toilet even when they didn't have to go waiting. And when they did we made a big deal and acted so proud of the poop & pee & gave them son M&M. Worked for all our family and friends kids too. |

Our daughter had a LOT of trouble getting the potty training down. The turning point was when we stopped using those training diapers and went straight to panties. For some reason she can not feel when she needs to go when she has the training diapers on. With panties, she feels it and runs to the potty.

My wife's mom was watching our daughter over a weekend once. Can't remember how old she was. Let my daughter poop her pants made her stay in em for a bit. After that she went to the pot.

if he's scared of the toilet, start sitting him on the can and reading books or playing games with him.
if he's just being obstinate you'll just have to keep trying. gauge how long it takes him to go after eating and just start putting him on the toilet at that time and sit there until he goes. |

Well you can't force them. As much as I wish you could. My 4.5yo just got the hang of pooping in the potty in the last month. We tried bribing, we tried letting him watch the tablet while sitting for a while, praising him, getting upset with/at him. Nothing really worked. He just decided on his own. He does get a small treat when he does. He'll hold it for days before he goes. Then he give us enough to clog the toilet.
Pee, he started to get about 6 months ago. He's pretty reliable now. Still is about 50/50 at night. He won't get up to go, so you really have to cut his fluid intake later in the day. |

Boys seems to be more resistant to it. He's a pretty independent person, even for a 3yo, and the one thing in life he has complete control over is where he poops. We try not to light up a powerful struggle, but pretty soon now it's going to be 'he poops in the potty or he gets the hose again'. That'll show him! |

I potty trained both my kids in one weekend by staying home all day with them not wearing pants on around the house. I also drank about a liter of water every 20 minutes to ensure I had to pee every 30 minutes. I would call them all in to the bathroom and then I'd go, then mom would go, and then they would go. If he went before us, we'd be all excited and then our turn. I encouraged them to communicate and pee in the toilet, and then I'd go. I was very bloated full of water. It was just one big pee-ful weekend.

Each kid is different but still in diapers at 3yr? Bless you OP, guess my wife and I were lucky. I will add that getting the toilet insert so they can climb up and get comfortable was the trick for us. My son still has times where he doesn't get his tush nice and clean, (even finishing with wet wipes,) so there a pair or two of undies with skid marks every other week. Measure success in inches...
Rewards like Matchbox cars, candy or whatever also works...Never use fear or shame though. |

After 4 kids, all eventually potty trained, my advice is to stop worrying about it. They will get there with a little positive feedback. When you push they push back and over react .
My 4 boys all figured it out in due time. |

2 of my 3 kids potty trained like 2-3 months before turning 3, the last one like 3 1/2. Most people here will probably say their baby potty trained before a year etc etc..everyone is different dont let it get you down.

Son was wearing rain boots with underwear and shorts one day durring pity training
He filled the boots up with pee. After that he never peed him self again. Number 2 took a bit more work but after going again a few times in underwear that stopped as well. |

My oldest daughter (now 17) refused to be potty trained as well. So one day my wife just took away her diapers forcing her to (hopefully) use the toilet. I still laugh at the site of her stamping her feet throwing a temper tantrum demanding we give her a diaper so she could poop.

He had one, maybe two accidents after that. Spotless record after that. Daughter was a different deal. She was stubborn, took me a few weeks. |

My son was just at 3 when he finally decided to stop crapping in a diaper.
The very first time he used the toilet for #2, was the last time he ever needed a diaper. He went from diapers to "no diapers" in one day. Trying to force them just doesn't work. When they're ready, they're ready. |
