PSA has a 7" keymod pistol kit for $379 shipped.  Even has magpul furniture.  It even has a brace for it....similar to a SIg brace.

I happen to have an AR15 lower marked as other and am out of ideas what to build with it.  I don't have a pistol. So.....I thought I might make a SHTF truck pistol.

What am I in for?

Loud as heck?
Range officers giving me crap at the range?

Thoughts?  Anyone with experience?

I have a7" and you don't ever want to shoot it without ear pro.

Fun,light and fast to maneuver.

^ yes, that....100% that

put a brace on it and you'll have some douche question it's legality or some RO saying they need to write a letter to the ATF

That's exactly what happened to me the first time i took my 7.5'' out with a SBPDW brace on it....summarized, "but you can adjust the length of pull on it.  Some us here question the legality of that and the side folding ones.  We are waiting to hear back from the ATF"

...my response, a ruling has already been made and hey....have you seen tailhook braces, aluminum and adjustable!

Maybe, lot of factors there, you'll most likely not escape without significant hearing damage.
And,watch the rapid fire stuff as you're making your getaway, my hand guard will fry bacon in less than 3 - 30 rounders if you're shooting video game style.

I'm looking at doing the same. I'd rather get a piston driven upper and get rid of the buffer tube. I'd like something like RRAs PDS Pistol.

Does anyone make a cheaper (but reliable) version?

7 inch ARs are loud as fuck, create more fire than velocity, and are just annoying if you shoot them in a tight space.

If you want something usable, 10 to 11 inches is the shortest you should go in 556.

Also, I'm done with Palmetto State. I've had to disassemble and unfuck two of their uppers recently.

It will hurt you almost as much as whomever you shoot.

But hey, if TEOTWAWAKI happens, you won't be listening to your iPod no more anyways.

Know what kind of ammo you will be using and how low of velocity it will perform out of. I dont know if M193/M855 will even frag out of a 7" barrel at the muzzle. M193/M855 only reliably frags out to 50 yards or so in an 11.5".

I was worried about getting shit at my local range for braces/ar pistols but boy was I wrong.  I was shooting one of my ar pistols with only the buffer tube and the RO started walking over to me with a somewhat serious face on.  I thought "here we go he's going to give me shit about something."  Nope not at all he just said "Just so you know the ATF said you can shoulder pistol braces now.  So you can put a brace on that if you want.".  I was pretty surprised to say the least.

I went with an 11.5, and put a can on it.

I probably should have gone 10.3 considering that I only have ever shot it suppressed.

I was going for the happy medium of lighter and handier while retaining halfass decent ballistics.

I like it.

I built a 9mm and a 5.56 7.5". Add a KAK flashcan and it's only really loud for anyone on the receiving end. As for diminished velocity, my living room is only 23' long and I bet it will still penetrate drywall and motherfuckers.

As always, get both.

Both are PSA kits on Anderson lowers.
10.5 on top, 7.5 Marauder on bottom.

The kit you're looking at OP has the SB Tactical SOB Brace.

What I don't understand is that brace, it looks very much like you have to basically install it on your arm, which takes an arm out of the fight in a cq combat scenario.

It would be good, imho, if someone made a collapsible pistol brace that was nothing but a tube with an upside down "C" that rests on top of the forearm during shooting.

You'd get the point if you ever shot an AR pistol.  Even wearing both ear plugs and ear muffs at the same time, they are still loud as hell.

Do it.  I shot mine for the first time yesterday.  7.5" PSA upper, PSA pistol lower, Shockwave brace.  I had on electronic muffs and had no issues.  I did feel the concussion from the gun and saw some nice fire thru the flash suppressor at dusk.  Very compact for a trunk gun, and best of all, it's a pistol for transporting and carrying it.  I'm building a second one with a Maxim brace.

Got several of them - Shoot 'em regularly.

The "loudness" of AR pistols is wildly overblown.

In reality, they're no more than 1 or 2 dB louder than a 16 inch AR.

He was asking about a SHTF truck gun.  My 7" and 8.5" guns are vastly louder than my 10" and it's f'n loud.

If shit hits the fan ear pro just might not be worn.

I've got one, but question it's usefulness. As a pistol, in Texas, you have to
carry it in a holster to be legal. That does not seem very practical to me.
Rifle is fine to walk around in your hands or with a sling, but not a pistol.
