I'm 63. I remember the warnings that we will be in permanent winter by the year 2000. The earth will be habitable only at the equator. Most of the worlds population will be dead. Further, that we might be able to lessen the problem slightly by deliberately causing the ice caps to melt, there was even a plan on how to it by spreading a layer of soot.

In 1973 I was in eighth grade and we were told that we are going into another ice age. The early 80's saw some of the coldest temps around WV ever. I remember it getting -23 deg where I lived and it was below -19 for almost a week. In the late 70's main water lines froze in places below 30 inches..I never heard about global warming until after 1988 when we had record for the number of days at high temps and a severe drought that summer.

Class of 72 just south of Tampa... without a/c...dress code was tank top ,shorts and free balling for guys...girls very much the same
if someone would have mentioned dying of weather , we would have died of laughter...still hot , still alive |
